Job Title: Summer Intern / Seasonal Worker

Organization: Old Harbor Native Corporation & Alutiiq Tribe of Old Harbor

Location: Old Harbor, Alaska

Employment Type: Temporary / Seasonal

Duration: Summer Season May to August

Reports To: Office and Project Manager


Position Summary

The Summer Intern / Seasonal Worker position supports a variety of community-focused projects in Old Harbor. This role is designed to provide hands-on work experience while contributing to the beautification, sustainability, and cultural enrichment of the community. Workers will assist with outdoor labor, youth programming, cultural camps, and local food initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Community Beautification & Maintenance

  • Perform weed eating, mowing, and general landscaping
  • Assist with village-wide trash clean-up efforts
  • Help maintain public spaces and community areas

Sitkalidak Sunrise Farms Support

  • Assist with planting, maintaining, and harvesting crops
  • Help with packaging and distribution of produce to community members
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of farm areas

Youth & Community Programming

  • Support Kids Day Camp activities and supervision
  • Assist with organizing games, cultural activities, and educational projects
  • Help ensure a safe, positive, and engaging environment for youth participants

Cultural Camp Support

  • Assist with the Alutiiq Tribe of Old Harbor's Nuniaq Camp
  • Support staff with camp setup, breakdown, and daily operations
  • Help participants engage in cultural activities and learning experiences

Cultural Tourism Support

  • Assist with welcoming visitors and providing a positive first impression of Old Harbor
  • Help prepare community spaces and cultural sites for tourism activities
  • Support cultural demonstrations, events, and presentations
  • Assist with setup of local products, displays, and sales opportunities
  • Share basic knowledge of local culture, traditions, and community values
  • Help maintain cleanliness and organization of tourism areas before and after visits

Qualifications

  • Must be dependable, punctual, and willing to work as part of a team
  • Ability to perform physical labor in outdoor conditions
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work with children and community members respectfully
  • Pass a background check
  • Age 14 and up
