Job Summary
The Graduate Residence Life Coordinator [GRLC] position is a graduate student position that is sponsored by the Department of Residence Life and is an integral component in the success of the department. This position is a 10-month assistantship with the opportunity for optional summer employment and will report directly to the Residence Life Coordinator [RLC] for their assigned area.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a professional staff member in assigned housing area.

  • Provide assistance to Residence Life Staff with programming efforts, including afterhours programs.

  • Support collaboration events between Residence Life and other departments on campus.

  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of departmental supplies in the community.

  • Coordinate student staff to accompany pest control services and support community tours.

  • Attend and assist in facilitating weekly community staff meetings.

  • Attend bi-weekly departmental staff meetings.

  • Coordinate Health & Safety checks with guidance from the RLC.

  • Coordinate the Room Verification process with assistance from the Resident Assistants.

  • Assist in the complete move-in and move-out processes during the various times of building openings and closings.

  • Serve on Department/University committees as assigned by supervisor and/or department leadership.

  • Provide basic counseling and advising to residential students as needed.

  • Participate in a professional and graduate staff duty rotation overseeing 1,300 residents serving as

  • the University's first line of response after the RA.

  • Select, supervise, and provide ongoing training for 1-6 Student Assistants as assigned.

  • Opportunity to serve as a hearing officer to effectively resolve cases of student misconduct.

  • Coordinating, assessing, and monitoring all roommate agreements, room condition reports, and lockouts for area.

  • Attend all trainings to include but not limited to: Graduate and Professional Staff Training, Residence Life Fall Student Staff Training, and Residence Life Spring Student Staff Training.

  • Research, develop, implement, and assess department wide projects.

  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life, Assistant Director(s) of Residence Life, or Residence Life Coordinator.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled full-time in a graduate program at Columbus State University.
  • Must maintain both a cumulative and semester GPA of at least 2.5, as well as good financial and judicial standing within the University.
  • Applicants should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, word processing skills, strong interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as sound judgment and tact.
  • GRLCs must be able to return to campus before classes start and stay after finals (dates can vary and will be communicated).
  • GRLCs are expected to abide by all federal, state, and local laws; as well as the policies and regulations of CSU and Residence Life, including, but not limited to those outlined in the Residence Life Community Guide and CSU Student Handbook.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications
Working towards a degree in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, or in another related program.
Experience working in residence life, leadership development, student activities, student conduct, etc.
Proposed Salary
Will receive an hourly compensation of $12.00 per hour.
The GRLC will work approximately 20 hours per week and paid biweekly. The exact number of hours per week may vary due to the unique demands of the position.
The person will receive a furnished apartment with amenities included. This space may be shared with another university graduate assistant.
*Please note that this position does not include tuition remission.
