As a Sanford Student Nursing Intern, you will experience the day-to-day life of a Registered Nurse in a variety of roles and settings. This hands-on, 10-week paid internship will expand your clinical skills and knowledge under the guidance of an experienced nurse preceptor.
Following the 10-week summer program, interns may have the option to extend their internship into the school year. This is a great opportunity to strengthen your skills and serve your community.
Additional requirements:
Be enrolled in an internship course approved by the state board of nursing (this does not apply to internships held in the states of South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin)
Expected graduation date of Fall / Winter 2027 or Spring / Summer 2028

Summary

The Sanford nursing intern participates in a learning experience designed to develop confidence and competence in clinical skills to facilitate a smooth transition into a licensed role after graduation. The internship program assists students in finding an area of nursing clinical practice that best fits their career goals, talents and interests. The intern will be mentored by an licensed professional in his/her specialty to strengthen clinical skill sets.

Job Description

The intern cares for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings. The intern discovers enhanced ways of communicating and supporting patients, learning what it is like working as a licensed professional in their field, while following a real schedule. Performs tasks of direct and indirect patient care and supports the activities of the department. Utilizes appropriate population-specific patient care protocols and policies related to the physical and psychological needs of all ages of patients. Embodies the vision and values that are compatible with Sanford Health. The intern functions within the scope and standards of practice as outlined in the state specific regulations.

Qualifications

Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited RN program (associate or bachelor degree) and have participated in an academic clinical experience.
Must be enrolled in a board of licensed clinical practice approved internship course. This does not apply to internships held in the state of South Dakota and Wisconsin.
