What is a Summer Startup Strategy?

A Summer Startup Strategy refers to a targeted plan or approach designed to help new businesses launch, grow, or accelerate during the summer months. This strategy often includes identifying seasonal opportunities, leveraging temporary resources like internships or summer programs, and executing marketing campaigns that appeal to summer trends. The goal is to capitalize on the unique dynamics of the summer period, such as increased consumer activity or student availability, to gain traction or test business ideas. Many accelerators and universities offer specialized programs during the summer to support startup founders with mentorship, funding, and networking. A strong Summer Startup Strategy can set the foundation for long-term growth and success.

How does a Summer Startup Strategy role typically collaborate with founders and other team members during the program?

In a Summer Startup Strategy role, you’ll work closely with founders to refine business models, conduct market research, and develop go-to-market plans. Collaboration is highly cross-functional: you might coordinate with marketing, product, and finance teams to gather insights and support strategic decisions. Expect frequent brainstorming sessions, feedback loops, and progress check-ins, creating a fast-paced and dynamic environment that values open communication and creative problem-solving.

Job description

Internship Opportunity: Beauty Brand Intern

Location: Los Angeles, CA

About Us:

Lost Angels is a female-founded, trend-setting beauty brand reinventing the press-on nail experience. Co-founded by LA-based celebrity nail artist, Lost Angels is rooted in industry-first innovations—a medium almond shape, a proprietary gel top coat, and professional-grade adhesive. Our designs don’t follow trends—they set them.

As a fast-growing startup, we’re looking for a driven, creative, and detail-oriented intern to join our team this summer. This is a hands-on opportunity to work directly with the founders and gain experience across multiple areas of brand-building and beauty entrepreneurship.

Position Overview:

The Beauty Brand Intern will support Lost Angels across key areas of marketing, content, product development, and e-commerce operations. This role will focus on executing day-to-day brand initiatives, supporting influencer and social media strategy, and assisting with product launches and retail efforts.

Interns will gain hands-on exposure to brand strategy, content creation, influencer partnerships, product lifecycle development, and direct-to-consumer operations within a high-growth beauty startup environment.

*Please note this is an unpaid internship, eligible for class credit.*

Responsibilities:

Marketing & Social Media

  • Assist with content planning, creation, and scheduling across platforms (TikTok, Instagram)
  • Support influencer outreach and gifting coordination
  • Track performance analytics and assist in compiling reports

Creative & Product Development

  • Contribute ideas for new collections, collaborations, and product names
  • Help plan and execute content and campaign shoots
  • Prep creative assets for email marketing, product launches, and retail pitches

E-Commerce & Operations

  • Upload product assets and support copywriting
  • Help maintain product listings

Customer Experience

  • Monitor and respond to customer feedback via email and social media
  • Support community engagement and brand loyalty efforts

Retail Support

  • Assist in creating retail pitch decks
  • Provide general support to our retail partners

Details:

  • Duration: 3-month internship, with the potential for extension based on performance and availability
  • Hours: 35–40 hours per week
  • Compensation: Unpaid; eligible for academic credit
  • Start Date: Flexible based on the student’s academic calendar, with an ideal start as soon as possible

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program
  • Passion for beauty and startup culture
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
  • Proficiency in Google Suite; bonus if you have experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or Shopify
  • Reliable transportation and availability to be on-site in Los Angeles 1–2 days a week

Benefits

  • Direct mentorship from the brand’s co-founders
  • Hands-on exposure to brand-building, product development, and digital marketing
