Job description

At ABB, we help industries run leaner and cleaner-and every person here makes that happen. You'll be empowered to lead, supported to grow, and proud of the impact we create together. Join us and help run what runs the world.
This position reports to:
Product Engineering & Quality Manager
The Quality & Reliability Engineer plays a critical role at the intersection of field operations and technical quality assurance for LV (Low Voltage) and MV (Medium Voltage) power converters used in solar and wind energy applications. This role is responsible for conducting on-site investigations of quality issues, gathering comprehensive field environment data, and actively participating in technical root-cause investigations by providing first-hand observations of equipment condition and operating environment. The position bridges the gap between the field and the global quality and engineering teams, ensuring that real-world findings are accurately captured and fed into the failure analysis process.
The work model for the role is: Hybrid, New Berlin, WI.
Your role and responsibilities:
  • Conduct on-site investigations of reported quality and reliability issues on LV and MV solar and wind power converters at customer facilities and energy farm sites.
  • Gather comprehensive field data including operating conditions, environmental factors, installation parameters, fault logs, waveforms, and physical condition of equipment.
  • Provide the engineering and quality teams with a clear, factual account of what is observed in the equipment and its operating environment (e.g., thermal patterns, vibration signatures, environmental stressors, site-specific anomalies)
  • Support large-scale repower projects and new product introductions by capturing field reliability data on LV and MV inverters.

Our Team Dynamics
Our teams support each other, collaborate, and never stop learning. Everyone brings something unique, and together we push ideas forward to solve real problems. Being part of our team means your work matters - because the progress we make here creates real impact out there.
Qualifications for the role:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline & 5 years plus or related experience with MV power converters (VFDs, inverters) in renewable energy applications (wind and/or solar).
  • Demonstrated experience in field troubleshooting, failure analysis, or quality investigation of power electronic equipment.
  • Experience with electronics & quality
  • Knowledge in [list key skills] required or preferred
  • Certifications preferred or required
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
