Job description

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company reclaiming the lost art of rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft in the world today. By prioritizing relentless hardware iteration, we deliver high-speed systems at the pace of the modern battlefield. We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.
Hermeus is seeking a highly hands-on, curious, and resourceful Platform Intern to support our Mission Systems Engineering team. This role is ideal for a "builder", someone who enjoys working across hardware, software, networking, and physical systems, and isn't afraid to pick up tools and figure things out.
You'll work at the intersection of IT infrastructure, flight systems, and real-world operations - supporting everything from ground control stations and networks to custom hardware setups and test environments.
Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)
Fall: Around 16 weeks (August - December)
Responsibilities:
  • Support build, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Ground Control Stations and mission systems infrastructure
  • Assist with installation and configuration of flight-critical IT systems, networking equipment, and communication tools
  • Help set up and maintain pilot-in-the-loop cockpits and test rigs (sim, hardware-in-the-loop, etc.)
  • Contribute to network setup and troubleshooting (Ethernet, fiber, routers, switches, VPNs)
  • Assist with hardware builds: servers, workstations, racks, cabling, and electronics packaging
  • Support basic electronics work (connectors, wiring, low-voltage systems, cable routing)
  • Help monitor system performance, reliability, and uptime across deployed systems
  • Contribute to documentation (configs, diagrams, troubleshooting guides)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, test, and operations teams
  • Support on-site testing or deployments as needed (including occasional travel)

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or related field
  • Familiarity with Linux and/or Windows systems
  • Exposure to basic networking concepts (IP, routing, switching, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with hardware (PC builds, wiring, electronics, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams
  • Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus' mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift equipment (~50 lbs) and work in physical environments (labs, test sites, etc.)
  • GPA of 3.0 or above

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with home labs, servers, or virtualization (VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V)
  • Exposure to networking hardware, cabling, or RF systems
  • Experience with CAD, 3D printing, or fabrication
  • Familiarity with video streaming, comms systems, or simulation setups
  • Basic understanding of power systems (AC/DC), cooling, or facility infrastructure
  • Experience documenting builds, systems, or processes

$25 - $33 an hour
