Job description

The Area Monitor/Gym Attendant supports the daily operations of the Recreation Center, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all members. This role involves equipment management, facility monitoring, customer service, and support for intramural programs and promotional efforts.Job Description

  • Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized facility environment
  • Remain alert to potential injuries or emergencies and respond appropriately
  • Check equipment in and out for members and support daily Recreation Office duties
  • Perform Rec Center laundry duties, including washing and folding towels, practice gear, and athletic team uniforms
  • Enforce Rec Center rules and policies consistently and professionally
  • Maintain proper organization, storage, and inventory of Recreation Office equipment
  • Complete daily accounting of facility use
  • Monitor equipment condition and perform occasional light maintenance
  • Support campus intramurals, including refereeing, setup, and teardown
  • Assist with promotional efforts for Rec Center programs and events, including social media content and event marketing support
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Soka University Recreation and Athletics
  • General knowledge of fitness principles
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Effective verbal communication
  • Self-motivated with the ability to contribute positively to a team environment
  • Prior customer service experience preferred

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday: 7:00 AM-10:00 PM, Saturday-Sunday: 11:00 AM-5:00 PM during the semester. Holiday and Summer hours vary.
  • Must be willing to work opening and/or closing shifts, including weekends
  • Minimum availability of 10 hours per week required

The base salary range for this position is listed above. Compensation ranges are based on several factors including job function, experience and geographic location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the range listed here.
