You can volunteer to work with patients at a hospice, veterans' hospital, or community clinic. Some medical facilities hire technicians, assistants, or entry-level scribes to help with administrative and clinical tasks and assist the doctor. If you are not ready to jump into hands-on responsibilities, you can find a physician to shadow and better understand their exact duties. There are also research opportunities for natural or medical sciences that demonstrate your dedication and interest to learn more.

As a Summer Pre Med participant, you'll typically engage in a variety of hands-on experiences, which may include clinical shadowing, assisting with patient intake, supporting research projects, and participating in health education activities. You may also help with administrative tasks, observe medical procedures, or collect data for ongoing studies, depending on the organization. These tasks provide valuable exposure to the day-to-day responsibilities of healthcare professionals, helping you build practical skills and gain insight into different specialties. Working closely with medical staff, researchers, and fellow interns, you'll also develop your professional network, which can be beneficial for future educational and career opportunities.
