Position overview:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Boise State University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's teaching mission with primary teaching responsibilities in freshman and sophomore courses with the possibility of upper-division courses within their area of disciplinary expertise. Course assignments will include general chemistry and may also include discipline-specific courses that align with departmental needs and the candidate's background. Summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation.
Lecturers teach four courses per semester and are integral members of the department's instructional team. The department is committed to delivering high-quality, engaging undergraduate education and values innovative, evidence-based teaching practices that promote student learning and success. These practices may include active learning strategies, the use of modern laboratory instrumentation, and technology-enhanced instruction.
The department also supports professional development and participation in initiatives that strengthen teaching effectiveness and enhance the student experience.
Department overview:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Chemistry. The department's vision is to "Promote student success through excellence in chemistry." We realize this vision by providing exceptional student research experiences and a curriculum designed to develop critical-thinking skills, independent research projects, instrumentation training, exceptional laboratory practices, and mastery of scientific writing.
As a Carnegie-classified R2 institution (Ph.D. granting, high research activity), we are dedicated to increasing high impact research. Our faculty members conduct research in areas such as drug discovery, medicinal chemistry and medical devices, cosmochemistry, prebiotic chemistry, archaeological science, computational chemistry, enzymology and enzyme mechanisms, RNA and protein chemistry, and polymer chemistry. Our faculty members participate in transdisciplinary programs and mentor M.S. and Ph.D. students in transdisciplinary programs including Materials Science and Engineering, Biomolecular Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, and Computing.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry education, science education, or a closely related field. Candidates whose graduate degree is in an education-related field must also hold a bachelor's degree in chemistry or biochemistry

Preferred qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry education, science education, or a closely related field
  • Experience teaching general chemistry
  • Experience developing and teaching online chemistry courses
  • Experience using evidence-based instructional practices
  • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate student success
  • Experience using modern laboratory instrumentation or technology-enhanced teaching methods

Salary and Benefits:
Salary ranges from $56,000 to $61,000 and is commensurate with experience
Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly, renewable contract, unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here.
