Job description

Job Overview: After School Associates  are members of the Extended Day team. This position is responsible for supporting the extended day program and leading a Spanish immersion classroom, supporting students through transitions, classroom management and behavior support, developing and engaging in enrichment activities, and continuous professional growth. The program consists of a robust offering of enrichment specials, outdoor play, and curriculum developed by the after school team. 

Reports To: The After School Associate reports to the Extended Day Program Director. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and facilitate daily opening circles
  • Develop and facilitate team trainings
  • Collaborate with an after school associate to lead a full Spanish immersion classroom
  • Lead weekly grade group meetings during training modeling Responsive Classroom protocols and guiding curriculum development efforts.
  • Actively engage in planning for and facilitating activities, such as: read alouds, creative play, nature walks, arts and crafts, physical education games and projects highlighting sustainability efforts such as gardening and cooking
  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans
  • Follow a schedule of highly structured activity rotations
  • Assist with the transition of students from the daytime program to their after school classrooms
  • Support administrative tasks such as gathering supplies and materials, taking attendance, distributing and tracking snack, completing incident reports as needed
  • Gain exposure to and participate in the Responsive Classroom philosophy for creating a community of learners and safely managing the classroom
  • Participate in after school team meetings, weekly professional development, and a 1-2 week summer institute
  • Contribute to the productivity of the school as a whole
  • Attend and participate in school events outside of regular school hours (as needed and able)
  • Provide childcare during parent teacher conferences and family engagement events
  • OPTIONAL: Teach in Mundo Verde’s summer program for an additional stipend
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Other Job Details

  • Schedule: 2.45pm-6pm M,T,Th,F.  Wednesday 10:30-6pm (may be required to attend meetings after student dismissal)
  • Class sizes range from 16-24 students. Grades with lower after school enrollment may share an associate between two classes. 
  • Location: Both campuses, 30 P St. NW, Washington DC, and 4401 8th St. NE, Washington DC
  • Position Type: This is an hourly part time  position and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act
  • Employment subject to TB test, fingerprinting and background check

Responsabilidades y deberes

  • Desarrollar y facilitar círculos de apertura diarios
  • Desarrollar y facilitar capacitaciones en equipo
  • Colaborar con un asociado para dirigir un aula de inmersión completa en español
  • Dirigir reuniones semanales de grupo de grado durante la capacitación modelando protocolos de Responsive Classroom y guiando los esfuerzos de desarrollo del plan de estudios.
  • Participe activamente en la planificación y facilitación de actividades, tales como: leer en voz alta, juegos recreativos, caminatas por la naturaleza, artes y manualidades, juegos y proyectos de educación física que destacan los esfuerzos de sostenibilidad como la jardinería y la cocina
  • Desarrollar e implementar planes de lecciones diarios
  • Siga un horario de actividades altamente estructuradas rotaciones de actividades
  • Ayudar con la transición de los estudiantes del programa diurno a sus salones de clases después de la escuela
  • Apoyar tareas administrativas como reunir suministros y materiales, tomar asistencia, distribuir y rastrear refrigerios, completar informes de incidentes según sea necesario
  • Obtener exposición y participar en la filosofía del aula receptiva para crear una comunidad de estudiantes y administrar el aula de manera segura

  • Associate Degree 
  • Advanced or native proficiency in Spanish
  • Bilingual preferred
  • One year of experience working with children ages 3-12(i.e. tutoring, camp, after school) required, it is a plus if experience in a school setting.   
  • An interest in exploring the possibility of a teaching career. 
  • Urban teaching experience preferred. 
  • Experience working with special needs students in an inclusive setting, preferred.
