Position Purpose

This role supports the design of complex structures, machinery, and rigging systems for live entertainment, themed attractions, and experiential environments through engineering analysis using structural and mechanical methods. Responsibilities include applying core physics and engineering principles to validate solutions while effectively communicating results in a fast-paced, collaborative setting. Coordination with project managers, designers, and all project team members is essential, along with oversight of third-party engineering resources.
 
Success in this role requires a strong foundation in engineering, commitment to precision and ethical standards, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Apply understanding of physics and engineering principles to solve complex, real-world challenges  
  • Engineer structures, machinery, and rigging systems that meet client specifications, jurisdictional requirements, and relevant codes and standards  
  • Analyze and validate designs using hand calculations, proprietary tools, and advanced simulation software, clearly communicating results in a fast-paced, collaborative environment  
  • Maintain awareness of standard solutions within TAIT’s markets, product lines, and platforms 
  • Support the development and integration of new technologies to strengthen TAIT’s market position  
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, mechanical designers, and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with project goals  
  • Manage activities of outside resources/third-party engineering firms regarding assigned functions on projects   
  • Collaborate with clients, suppliers, contractors, and external professional bodies to ensure successful project outcomes  
  • Support bid teams through validation of proposed solutions using the appropriate level of engineering rigor and with the correct mindset    
  • Collaborate with all departments in a design and manufacturing environment

Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics or physics required 
    • Holds EIT certification and actively working towards PE certification  
    • Structural engineering qualifications 
    • 2-4+ years of structural engineering experience with an emphasis in stress analysis
    • Working knowledge of multiple topics of structural engineering science and practice (stress and deflection of structures, design for global environmental conditions, connection engineering, aluminum structures, dynamic analysis)
    • Proficient in structural analysis with RISA-3D or equivalent software experience
    • 1+ years of entertainment experience (preferred)
    • Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change   
    • Possesses a strong work ethic, sense of urgency, and decisiveness  
    • Willingness to extend working hours when necessary to meet project deadlines
    • Willingness to travel infrequently, domestic and international, for projects or to other TAIT offices to improve collaboration

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

The employee regularly operates a computer, including typing, using a mouse or keyboard, and viewing the screen for extended periods. While the role does not require regular lifting or physical exertion, there may be occasional onboarding programs or training opportunities that create opportunities for more exposure to physical tasks or new environments (sites, venues, etc.)

  • Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, safety toed shoes, and other PPE as required by the location.
