Job description

VACANCY:  The Valley View Public School District is seeking an individual to fill the 6-12 Mathematics and Science Coordinator position for the 2026-2027 school year.
JOB SUMMARY: The 6-12 Mathematics/Science Coordinator reports to the 6-12 Director of Mathematics and Science and is responsible for:

  • Coordinating the mathematics and science programs for the district
  • Promoting effective mathematics and science instruction throughout the district
  • Modeling effective instructional practices and providing effective resources for teachers in 6-12 classrooms in the areas of classroom management, mathematics, and hands-on, inquiry based science
  • Working with building administration to coordinate the work of mathematics and science teachers and support Tier II and Tier III intervention implementation
  • Facilitating the development, implementation, and evaluation of the mathematics and science curriculum
  • Assisting administrators and staff with professional development in mathematics and science
  • Creating, facilitating, and managing district curriculum committees
  • Co-facilitating district committee meetings in mathematics and science
  • Supporting teachers and staff with the alignment and successful implementation of the Common Core State Standards in the area of Mathematics and Next Generation Science Standards in the area of Science
  • Coordinating the development, implementation, and analysis of mathematics and science curriculum-based common assessments
  • Assisting in the creation and implementation of effective reporting practices
  • Visiting schools regularly to observe mathematics and science practices in order to support instruction
  • Meeting regularly with teachers to promote data-driven instructional practices, and to train, answer questions, offer curricular support, and facilitate sharing in a Professional Learning Community setting
  • Assisting in the coordination of professional development workshops for Institute Days, School Improvement Days, after hours, and summer opportunities
  • Managing and updating the district's 6-12 curriculum website
  • Maintaining textbook and materials (ordering and inventory)
  • Collaborating effectively with other departments, such as Student Services, Bilingual, Assessment, Professional Development, Grants and Accountability, Technology and all PreK-5 Directors and Coordinators
  • Other duties as they pertain to and support the position of the Mathematics and Science Coordinator position

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicant must hold a State of Illinois Teaching Certificate
  • Masters Degree in Mathematics, Science, or Curriculum and Instruction
  • Preferred Type 75 or Administrative Endorsement
  • Five years successful 6-12 mathematics or science teaching experience
  • Preferred three to five years experience in a leadership position related to curriculum planning and alignment, implementation, and evaluation
  • Strong technology background
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience in relation to best instructional practices, Response to Intervention, NWEA-MAP and Professional Learning Communities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with all professionals, parents, students and community members
  • Effective time-management skills and ability to carry out multiple assignments and tasks
  • Experience meeting the learning needs of diverse learners, including those from varying economic and cultural backgrounds and those who are English Language Learners
