Arkansas State University Mid-South, a comprehensive community college located in West Memphis, Arkansas, seeks a dynamic and student-centered individual to provide full-time instruction in its Mathematics department. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide engaging, learner-centered instruction and an enthusiasm for identifying and implementing innovative teaching strategies targeting an academically diverse student population.
The Mathematics Instructor reports to the Assistant Dean of Liberal Arts, Mathematics, and Teacher Education with responsibility for instruction of developmental- and college-level courses, student advising, student retention, assessment of student learning, service on college committees, and other duties as assigned. Work assignments may include evening and/or weekend hours.
This is a 30 hour per week, 10-month position with full college benefits.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in either Mathematics or Mathematics Education with 18+ graduate hours in mathematics
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

Desired Qualifications
  • Teaching and/or other position-related work experience preferably at a community college
  • Demonstrated understanding of academic needs of underprepared, low income, first generation, and traditionally underrepresented students
  • Experience providing instruction to and/or developing instructional models for academically underprepared/developmental learners
  • Evidence of the ability to work effectively to meet the educational needs of a diverse student body
  • Preference will be given to candidates who understand active and divergent learning styles
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required, and previous use of MyMathLab and Canvas or another Learning Management System is preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach mathematics courses during the fall and spring with an option for summer semesters.
  • Deliver instruction to secondary and postsecondary students that aligns with approved ASU Mid-South syllabi and academic standards, supporting student attainment of course-and program-level learning outcomes.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of innovative instructional practices in support of co-requisite course models.
  • Support development of curriculum to align with initiatives in mathematics.
  • Assess academic achievement to improve student learning and instruction.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grade records using the College's LMS.
  • Serve as an academic advisor for students.
  • Participate in institutional student recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Collaborate with relevant grant-sponsored programs to attain grant objectives and support the College's track record of success with executing federal, state, and privately-funded grant-sponsored initiatives.
  • Monitor emerging industry trends and technologies to ensure relevance of Mathematics curriculum and training aids.
  • Participate in Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ACTM) activities and events.
  • Perform job responsibilities with an emphasis on internal and external customer service.
  • Understand and comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Participate in registration, commencement, and other required activities.
  • Serve on college committees.
  • Support and contribute to the accomplishment of ASU Mid-South's vision, mission, and goals.
