Position Summary
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Mathematics Teacher to join our Mathematics Department and teach students in Grades 7-12.
The successful candidate will deliver rigorous mathematics instruction aligned with the school's Saxon Math curriculum and instructional philosophy. High school teaching assignments may also include International Baccalaureate (IB) Mathematics courses, providing students with a challenging, college-level academic experience.
The ideal candidate is passionate about developing students' mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and conceptual understanding while maintaining high academic expectations in a structured classroom environment.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging mathematics instruction aligned with the Saxon Math curriculum and, when assigned, the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
  • Teach five daily mathematics classes using instructional practices that promote conceptual understanding, computational fluency, logical reasoning, and problem-solving.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional units with clear learning objectives and measurable outcomes.
  • Assess student learning through quizzes, tests, projects, and other formative and summative assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, progress reports, and report cards.
  • Administer standardized assessments as directed by the Mathematics Department Chair and Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate regularly with members of the Mathematics Department to strengthen curriculum, instruction, assessment practices, and student achievement.
  • Implement the school's assertive discipline model and maintain a structured, respectful classroom environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress and academic expectations.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, department meetings, professional development, and other required school events.
  • Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Mathematics Department Chair and/or Assistant Director.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field required.
  • Massachusetts Mathematics licensure (or eligibility to obtain licensure).
  • Strong knowledge of secondary mathematics content, including algebra, geometry, functions, and higher-level mathematics.
  • Familiarity with the Saxon Math program is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop engaging lessons that meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Experience assessing student performance and using data to inform instruction.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, families, and school leadership.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities in accordance with school policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts MTEL requirements within one year of employment.
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to the Mathematics Department Chair and is an annual appointment subject to yearly evaluation.
