SUMMER DISCOVERY TEACHERWe are seeking dedicated and engaging Part-Time Teachers to support our Summer Discovery programming. We are currently hiring for multiple locations. Teachers will deliver high-quality instruction using the evidence-based curriculum, guide youth through structured learning experiences, and ensure measurable growth by the end of each program session. This Appointment Term is based on availability of grant funds. This is a grant-funded position.
The continuation of this role depends on the availability of ongoing funding.
Employment beyond the current grant period is not guaranteed and will be based on the renewal of funding.Examples of Duties- Facilitate daily instruction using the evidence-based curriculum with fidelity.
- Manage and guide a classroom of up to 18 youth in a structured, supportive environment.
- Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning space.
- Track youth progress and contribute to overall program improvement outcomes.
- Collaborate with site staff and leadership to support program goals.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality across assigned days and locations.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field.
- Michigan Certified Teacher or currently enrolled in a program for Childhood Education.
- One (1) year of experience in providing classroom education.
Equivalency- Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Required Qualifications- Experience working with youth in an educational or instructional setting
- Strong classroom management and youth engagement skills
- Ability to lead a group of up to 18 youth independently
- Commitment to student growth and program outcomes
- Ability to follow curriculum guidelines while adapting to youth needs
- Reliable transportation and flexibility to work at multiple locations
Preferred Qualifications- Teaching, tutoring, or after-school program experience
- Familiarity with social-emotional learning or enrichment-based curricula
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Training Requirement- All selected teachers must successfully complete a paid training on the evidence-based curriculum expectations prior to program launch.
- Participate fully in a mandatory training prior to program start (June 16 - June 18 from 9:00a until 3:30p)
- Pre Assessment Day: Friday, June 26 from 8:00am - 12:00pm
- Teaching Schedule: June 22 through July 31
- Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 12:00pm
- 4 hours per day (4 days of Instruction: Monday to Thursday)
- 1 day of Curriculum Prep (Friday)

This is a Temporary Administrative Special Services (TASS) position. This Appointment Term is based on availability of grant funds. This is a grant-funded position. Special veterans' preference (up to 15 points) and domicile credits (15 points) may be given to eligible candidates who are successful on the oral appraisal. This class is designated as a Special Service class to be administered under the provisions of Chapter 13 of Detroit City Code.

This plan is provided by Blue Care Network of Michigan and utilizes their PCP Focus Network. This plan provides you with the opportunity to receive an enhanced level of benefits and pay less out of your paycheck for your medical plan. There are two important requirements that you should consider and understand if you should decide to enroll in this plan. You will have to choose a primary care physician that serves within the PCP Focus network. This primary care physician coordinates your care. The network includes over 22,000 Primary Care Physicians.
