Job description

Sr. Chassis Test & Development Test Planning Engineer
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for a Test Planning Senior Engineer at our California Proving Ground.
  • The Test Planning Engineer role will manage the vehicle testing that occurs between various teams during the vehicle development process, coordinate seasonal testing activities, and participate in vehicle static and dynamic evaluations.
  • The Chassis Test & Development (CTD) Team is involved throughout the vehicle development process to ensure the competitiveness of Hyundai Motor Group products in North America.
  • CTD works closely with all other development teams in order to manage and facilitate testing that needs to occur at various stages of vehicle development especially the attributes that requires secured and consistent testing environment such as CPG and requires variety of test conditions utilizing adjacent off-site test venues for off-road test and seasonal test.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Test planning and coordination for CTD-led development activities like prototype vehicle evaluations, calibration, on-site test (tire screening test, media event, etc.), off-site test (off-road test, 3rd party track test, ride & drive, media event, etc.), rig test (suspension kinematic & compliance test, etc.).
  • Seasonal testing coordination, like Summer testing at Death Valley and Winter testing in Minnesota.
  • Manage test vehicle fleet throughout the whole vehicle lifecycle, consisting of vehicle shipment coordination, vehicle check-in and documentation, key management, vehicle tracking, inventory checks, and vehicle disposal.
  • Track vehicle registrations & renewals, including management of manufacturer license plates.
  • Track and manage fixed assets such as test equipment, sensors, data loggers, tools, etc.
  • Support development garage technician management (workload analysis and job assignment)
  • Coordinate vehicle test usage between teams, and manage testing priorities with various teams.
  • Coordinate vehicle access requests from other HATCI Teams, and vehicle loan requests from Affiliates.
  • Facilitate competitor vehicle purchases and rentals.
  • Track the development status of Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia vehicle projects.
  • Interface regularly with Hyundai and Kia affiliates in North America.
  • Support other technical groups as needed.
  • Create and present clear and concise technical reports.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study
  • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience in the automotive industry
  • General understanding of vehicle dynamics, NVH, braking, and powertrain systems
  • Proficiency in planning, executing, and monitoring projects
  • Proficiency with MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook
  • Work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Strong analytical skills, data-driven decision-making abilities
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills
