Summer Laboratory Interns are typically students or recent graduates who participate in temporary, hands-on learning experiences within research or clinical laboratories during the summer months. They assist with experiments, data collection, and laboratory maintenance under the supervision of experienced scientists or technicians. The goal of a summer lab internship is to provide practical exposure to laboratory techniques, scientific research processes, and professional environments, helping interns build skills and gain insight into potential STEM career paths.

What does a summer laboratory intern do?

As a Summer Laboratory Intern, you can expect to engage in a variety of hands-on laboratory tasks such as preparing samples, conducting basic experiments, maintaining lab equipment, and recording data. You may also assist with ongoing research projects under the supervision of experienced scientists or lab managers.
