Summer Internship Program Guidelines
Program Overview
The Summer Internship Program is designed to provide students with hands-on exposure to the construction industry, with a focus on underground utility work. Interns will gain practical experience, learn essential safety practices, and explore career opportunities in the skilled trades. Other internship opportunities such as Surveyors (AutoCAD), Equipment Mechanics, HR, and Finance will also be available. 
Program Duration
  • Typical duration: 6–10 weeks during summer months
  • Work schedule: 20–40 hours per week

Eligibility Requirements
Participants must:
  • Be at least 17 years old
  • Be enrolled in high school, trade school, or college
  • Have reliable transportation to job sites or designated meeting areas
  • Demonstrate interest in construction, skilled trades, or business
  • Submit any required school consent forms

Program Objectives
Interns will:
  • Gain exposure to underground utility construction (water, sewer, storm systems)
  • Learn job site safety standards and OSHA basics
  • Understand construction workflows and team roles
  • Develop basic hands-on skills under supervision
  • Build professional work habits and communication skills

Intern Responsibilities
  • Follow all company safety rules and wear required PPE at all times
  • Arrive on time and maintain reliable attendance
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and crew leads

Company Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe and structured learning environment
  • Assign a supervisor or mentor for each intern

Safety Guidelines
  • Safety is a condition of participation
  • Interns must attend all safety orientations and toolbox talks
  • No operation of heavy equipment unless explicitly authorized and trained
  • Immediate reporting of hazards, injuries, or unsafe conditions
  • Zero tolerance for unsafe behavior

Work Activities
Interns may assist with:
  • Site preparation and cleanup
  • Material handling and staging
  • Observing trenching, pipe installation, and utility layout
  • Basic tool use under supervision
  • Traffic control assistance (if trained)

Supervision and Evaluation
  • Interns will be supervised at all times by qualified personnel

Compensation

Attendance and Conduct

Disciplinary Action

Intern Meetings/Huddles
  • Interns will be required to attend 3 group meetings: Welcome Orientation, Midway Check-in, and Program Completion Meeting
