This role is a direct pathway to a career as a professional recording engineer, providing invaluable experience that you can't get in a classroom alone. You will sharpen the critical skills that define a working pro, flawless reading, stylistic versatility, and studio etiquette, while building a network of musicians, composers, producers, and engineers. This is your chance to build your reputation and become a go-to engineer within the Berklee community.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
  • Responsible for recording and engineering the PWL recording sessions.
  • Also available for ad-hoc recording sessions outside of established studios as a contractor.
  • Session Engineers will distribute parts, set up the studio, move microphones, prepare the ProTools Sessions, check attendance, and otherwise ensure the smooth operation of the PWL sessions.
  • Create the desired mix for the specific lab you are engineering.
  • Responsible for the distribution of recorded assets (stems, files, etc) to the lab's Google Drive folder immediately following the session.
  • Maintaining and cleaning up the PWL rooms after each band, including properly wrapping cables, putting away microphones, and covering the piano and other equipment.

What You Bring (Qualifications):
  • Must have completed MP-385, Advanced Recording Techniques
  • Must complete the Studio Operations training session.
  • Understanding of the proper techniques for recording various instruments (saxophones, brass, percussion, piano, electric and acoustic bass/guitar, etc).
  • Robust knowledge of DAW workflow
  • Previous recording/sound experience with acoustic ensembles
  • Experience using Google Drive and other Google tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Reliable and consistent.

What You'll Gain:
  • Hands-on experience recording music with top-notch musicians
  • Opportunities to work directly with Berklee faculty and industry professionals
  • Development of your technical and creative skills as a session engineer
  • Network with faculty and peers, opening doors to future collaborations and career opportunities.

By taking on this role, you'll gain experience that complements your academic studies at Berklee. This opportunity is designed to help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a career as a professional session musician.
