Job description

Job Description
QUICK NOTE:
If you are NOT located in the United States, please do not apply. This is only eligible for people who are US Citizens or current Green Card holders who are living in the US and want to relocate to Chicago. This is NOT a remote job... Thank you
Energy Talent Search is conducting a confidential search for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join a Chicago-based, early-stage technology company building a next-generation, AI-driven data aggregation and data intelligence platform for mid-market companies.
This is a well-funded, early-stage startup with a live product, paying customers, and fast access to capital. The founding team has prior startup and successful exit experience, and the engineering group is intentionally small, senior, and highly selective.
This is not an idea-stage company and not a consulting-driven organization. The product is in market, customers are actively using it, and the company is scaling deliberately with a strong focus on engineering quality.
The client would prefer a local Chicago engineer but would relocate the right candidate for someone who wants to be in Chicago.
What the Company Is Building
The company is building a unified data platform that makes it dramatically easier for mid-market businesses to collect, organize, stream, and act on data-without the complexity, cost, and operational overhead typically associated with enterprise-scale solutions.
The platform brings together disparate data sources into a single system and enables:
  • Real-time data ingestion and event streaming
  • Centralized organization and normalization of data
  • AI-powered insights, automation, and alerts
  • Native Excel integration for business users
  • Automated workflows driven by live data signals
The product is positioned as a simpler, faster, mid-market alternative to heavyweight platforms such as Databricks, Palantir, and large consulting-driven implementations, which are often expensive, slow to deploy, and overbuilt for this customer segment.
The focus is on practical, usable data intelligence, not theoretical tooling or bloated enterprise architectures.
This role is a hands-on individual contributor position. It is not managerial, not consultative, and not an oversight role. You are expected to write production code regularly and contribute directly to core product architecture and feature development.
Requirements
  • Strong, hands-on full stack software engineering experience
  • Proven ability to build and ship real production software
  • Experience working across frontend, backend, and application-layer systems
  • Comfort operating in early-stage, fast-moving, ambiguous environments
  • Startup experience strongly preferred
  • Strong engineering judgment and system-level thinking
  • Engineers who still code day-to-day
  • Stable work history (this role is not a fit for frequent job hoppers)
This role is NOT open to:
  • Contractors or consultants
  • Agency developers
  • Sales, marketing, product, or executive profiles
  • Engineers who no longer code regularly

Benefits
  • Base salary: Approximately $180,000-$200,000 range
  • Meaningful equity with real upside (equity is a core part of compensation)
  • Opportunity to join a company with live product and paying customers
  • Small, elite engineering team with real ownership and autonomy
  • Direct impact on product direction and architecture
  • Opportunity to build something genuinely useful at the intersection of AI and data
  • Long-term upside aligned with company growth and success

  • Relocation to Chicago for the right candidate. Must currently be living in the US...this role is NOT a remote job.
This is ONLY open to US Citizens or Green Card holders currently living in the United States.
