Summer Forestry Field Assistant
Location: 11821 123 Street NW Edmonton, Alberta
Closing Date: April 3, 2026, or Until Suitable Candidates Found.
Position Status: One (1) Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary (May-August)
The Otipemisiwak Metis Government is recruiting for one (1) full-time, temporary Summer Forestry Field Assistant. This is a summer term position with an end date of August 28, 2026. Reporting to the Conservation Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with conservation site monitoring, data collection, community education and land stewardship work; activities including, but not limited to, invasive species management, habitat assessments, plant/wildlife surveys, and community events. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be required to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department's goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Support land stewardship activities, including seed management, tree planting, and environmental monitoring.
- Support plant and wildlife monitoring activities, including but not limited to habitat assessments and remote camera, pollinator netting, and bioacoustics surveys.
- Support remote and field property assessments to identify lands for the potential establishment of new conversation areas.
- Support the planning and implementation of community engagements and events, in person or online.
- Support relationships with external agencies, including but not limited government bodies, private sector, and members of the public.
- Assist with data collection, entry, and analysis.
- Assist with environment and climate initiatives, including grant applications, delivery of projects, and reporting.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Assist with administration of Otipemisiwak Metis Government Provincial events & programs.
- Other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
- Obtained or pursuing a post-secondary education in Forestry, Environmental Science, Conservation Science, Ecology, Resource Management, or related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
- 1-2 years related experience in a conservation role is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
- Experience with identification of plants and animals, including invasive species, and habitat health assessments.
- Experience with field data collection methodologies, including the use of remote cameras.
- Experience with native seed collection, greenhouse operations, and planting activities.
- Experience interpreting conservation legislation, policies, and guidelines is an asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
- A current Criminal Record Check is required.
