What is summer coaching?

Summer coaching refers to organized instructional programs or sessions held during the summer months, designed to help individuals improve specific skills or knowledge. These programs can focus on academics, sports, arts, or personal development, and are often led by experienced coaches or educators. Summer coaching provides an opportunity for participants to stay engaged, address learning gaps, or gain a competitive edge before the new school year or sports season begins.

To thrive as a Summer Coach, you need a solid understanding of coaching fundamentals, youth development, and often a relevant certification in sports or recreation leadership. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and growth-oriented experience for all involved.

What are some common challenges faced by summer coaches and how can they be addressed?

Summer coaches often face the challenge of engaging a diverse group of participants with varying skill levels and maintaining motivation throughout the program. Adapting lesson plans to accommodate different learning styles and regularly incorporating fun, interactive activities can help keep all participants engaged. Effective communication and teamwork with other coaches and staff are essential for managing group dynamics and ensuring a positive environment. Additionally, time management is crucial, as summer programs are typically short and require efficient planning to achieve learning goals.

Job description

We Do Consulting Differently
Launch Your Consulting Career with Impact
As a Summer Associate in BRG's Retail Performance Improvement (RPI) practice, you'll work alongside experienced consultants to help retailers, consumer brands, and private equity clients solve some of their most complex operational and financial challenges. From day one, you'll contribute to projects that drive measurable impact-improving profitability, optimizing operations, and supporting value creation across the retail and consumer ecosystem.
RPI teams partner with clients ranging from Fortune 500 retailers and CPG companies to private equity sponsors and portfolio companies. Our work spans strategy, cost transformation, supply chain, merchandising, store operations, omnichannel performance, and enterprise execution-always with a focus on turning insight into action.
What You'll Do
RPI supports clients through periods of transformation, growth, and change-helping leadership teams make better decisions, operate more efficiently, and unlock value. As a Summer Associate, your work will be hands-on, fast-paced, and team-based, with exposure to both strategic analysis and real-world implementation.
Your role will combine analytical problem-solving, structured thinking, and clear communication, while giving you a front-row seat to how consulting teams work with clients in dynamic environments.
Your work as a Summer Associate may include:
  • Analyzing financial and operational data to identify cost savings, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities
  • Supporting development of business cases, forecasts, and value capture models
  • Conducting market, competitor, and operational research across retail and consumer sectors
  • Translating analysis into clear, client-ready slides and written deliverables
  • Contributing to diagnostics related to supply chain, merchandising, store operations, labor, pricing, or omnichannel performance
  • Partnering with consultants and client teams to support workstreams and deliverables

Visit: www.thinkBRG.com to learn more about our practice areas and the types of transformation work we support.
Your Impact and Growth
At BRG RPI, we believe learning happens best through doing. The learning curve is steep-but you'll be supported every step of the way.
  • Hands-On Learning: Gain real consulting experience through project-based work, mentorship, and on-the-job coaching
  • Apprenticeship Model: Learn directly from consultants and leaders with deep industry and functional expertise
  • Meaningful Ownership: Your contributions matter-Summer Associates are trusted with real responsibility
  • Professional Development: Build core consulting skills in problem-solving, communication, and executive-ready analysis

Who You Are
We're looking for curious, driven, and analytical students who are excited to learn, ask questions, and contribute in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Education: Progress toward a Bachelor's in business, economics, finance, accounting, analytics, engineering, supply chain, operations, or a related field. A GPA of 3.6 or higher is highly desirable.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of prior work or internship experience.
  • Technical Skills: Strong Excel skills required. Familiarity with PowerPoint is expected. Experience with SQL, Python, R, Tableau, or other analytical tools is a plus, but curiosity and willingness to learn matter most.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Ability to structure ambiguous problems, analyze data, and think logically about solutions.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain analysis and insights.
  • Adaptability & Initiative: Comfortable working in a dynamic environment, taking ownership of tasks, and learning through feedback.

Why Join Us?
  • Work on high-impact retail and consumer transformation projects
  • Learn from consultants with deep industry and functional expertise
  • Build a strong foundation for a career in consulting, strategy, or operations
  • Experience a collaborative, supportive, and high-performance culture
  • Receive competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits

If you're ready to challenge yourself, grow faster than you ever imagined, and build a career where your work makes a difference-we want to hear from you.
Salary Range: $25-40/hour
Location: Retail Performance Improvement (RPI) Summer Associates are aligned to the Boston, MA office. RPI Summer Associates may travel to client sites-both local and non-local-up to 80%.
Candidate must be able to submit verification of his/her legal right to work in the United States, without company sponsorship now or in the future.
