Job description

Position Summary: The Lead Cabin Counselor will monitor, lead and control a group of children. This position will work with children, fellow workers, and staff to provide a safe and meaningful summer camp experience in a Christian environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supervising cabin counselors and emergency procedures drills, reporting all information to the Program Director
  • Work with counselors to answer questions on procedure, problems, program ideas and operational supplies
  • Assist in cabin inspection following each camp session
  • Assist in the planning and presentation of camp orientation as requested
  • Review related program policy and manuals to recommend improvements
  • Responsible for welcoming, settling, and safety of campers for each session
  • Ensure campers are aware of personal cleanliness, appropriately dressed for the weather and take precautions in dealing with sun and insect protection
  • Be an example of and encourage respect at all times
  • Take note of all announcements
  • Assist in teaching activities as needed
  • Be sure each camper is getting proper rest. Encourage a rest time for tired campers. Encourage promptness throughout the day, including lights-out time
  • Lead the cabin group on dining hall procedures, cabin cleanliness, meal cookouts, overnight camp outs, group activities and nightly devotions
  • Serve as spotters at lakefront as needed
  • Plan activities for the cabin group on rainy days unless otherwise programmed
  • On each camp closing day, check out cabin group
  • Sanitize showers and bathrooms daily, sanitize dorm area after each session, ensuring safe storage of all cleaning supplies
  • Complete appropriate daily reports each day, share with the Program Director, or local leaders, any concerns for follow-up after camp
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Previous experience working with children preferred

  • Basic computer skills required

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Complete Safe From Harm and keep current as needed
