The Role

General Motors is seeking an Entry Level Creative Vehicle Brand Identity Designer to join the Design organization in Warren, Michigan. This entry-level role focuses on creating brand identity elements that appear on and around the vehicle, including badging, emblems, scripts, nameplates, logos, and related graphic details.

The designer will translate each brand's character into compelling visual assets that strengthen recognition, support consistency across the portfolio, and enhance the customer's emotional connection to the product.

What You'll Do

  • Develop 2D brand identity concepts for GM vehicle brands, including logos, graphics, scripts, nameplates, badges, graphic systems and related visual elements.
  • Create clear visual proposals through typography, logo refinement, layouts, sketches, and presentation materials that reflect the brand and integrate with the vehicle
  • Iterate on designs with a strong focus on graphic clarity, typography, form, material expression, and overall visual impact.
  • Collaborate with design, sculpting, engineering, prototyping, and marketing partners to help translate concepts into solutions.
  • Incorporate feedback effectively and prepare clear presentations for design reviews and leadership discussions.
  • Stay current on trends in automotive design, branding, typography, and graphics.
  • Support 3D development and visualization as needed to help translate 2D graphic ideas into vehicle applications.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Design, Communication Design, Industrial Design, or a related field, or equivalent portfolio-based experience.
  • 0 to 2 years of professional, internship, or major academic project experience in graphic design, brand identity, industrial design, automotive design, or a related creative field.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating skill in graphic design, typography, composition, visual storytelling, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to generate strong concepts and explore multiple design directions quickly.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and similar 2D design and visualization tools.
  • Solid understanding of brand identity systems, typography, graphic hierarchy, and visual communication.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience applying graphic identity to physical products, branded components, emblems, badges, scripts, packaging, or other highly refined design details.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling, surfacing, and visualization tools such as Alias, Rhino, Blender, VRED, KeyShot, or similar software.
  • Ability to translate 2D graphic ideas into 3D product applications.
  • Understanding of automotive design development and how to collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Knowledge of materials, finishes, and manufacturing requirements for exterior identity components.
