Job description

Orlando Neighborhood Improvement Corporation (ONIC) seeks Youth Program Arts Instructors. The ideal candidate is a compassionate and joyful individual who has experience facilitating art sessions with youth ages 5 – 17.

COME WORK WITH US DURING SUMMER CAMP AND THROUGH THE YEAR

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.80 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6 – 15 per week.

SUMMARY: The Youth Program Arts Instructor teaches life and coping skills through an art form to youth ages 5 – 17 enrolled in the Prodigy Cultural Arts Program at ONIC’s properties. This individual collaborates with fellow instructors, the Youth Specialists, and the Youth Manager to promote youth’s personal growth and development. The Youth Program Arts Instructor creates a supportive and inclusive environment for all participants.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides cultural arts instruction to enrolled youth ages 5-17, in a culturally relevant, child-centered format.
  • Formulates lesson plans such that youth are challenged to discover their personal agency through creative expression, and to develop identified life and coping skills.
  • Maintains classroom order conducive to learning.
  • Conducts classroom activities according to program procedures, regulations, and classroom rules.
  • Adheres to program safety and security procedures and regulations.
  • Recognizes members for program participation and achievement.
  • Monitors daily attendance and verify participants’ attendance records.
  • Participates in required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience in at least one artistic specialty (dance, musical instrument, theater, paint, etc.)
  • Required one year’s experience working with youth ages five (5) to seventeen (17) in an art environment.
  • Required to provide portfolio or demonstrate skills for art discipline.
  • Required to demonstrate teaching skills verbally and in written form.
  • Required to complete training sessions and certification, as required for the position.
  • Required to pass a Live-scan Level II background clearance.
  • Required computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Continually required to talk, hear, and observe.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Occasionally required to bend, stoop, or kneel.
  • Be able to sit or stand for up to 3 hours.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Reliable transportation is required to travel to various locations. If operating a vehicle, a current Driver’s License and proof of motor vehicle liability insurance are required.
