Job description

Library Management

  • Maintain a welcoming, safe, organized, and engaging library environment
  • Review, organize, catalog, and maintain a collection of mission-aligned literature appropriate for students
  • Manage and maintain library systems and resources
  • Assist with selection and ordering of materials.
  • Work with administration to maintain and responsibly steward the library budget.
  • Coordinate library volunteers to facilitate book repair, cataloguing/shelving and student assistance.

Instructional Support

  • Teach basic library, research, and media literacy skills including ethical use of information.
  • Support students in selecting appropriate and engaging reading materials
  • Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum through literature and library resources

Student Engagement

  • Foster a love of reading and lifelong learning
  • Encourage student curiosity through books, storytelling, and school-wide reading initiatives.
  • Coordinate author visits and literature appreciation opportunities.
  • Coordinate and schedule two book fairs annually.
  • Manage receipt of donated books and an intentional redistribution of books to students prior to the summer break.

Catholic Identity

  • Actively foster and support Catholic beliefs, traditions and practices.
  • Reflect the Catholic Church’s teaching on social justice and witness service to others.
  • Lead and encourage prayer in the classroom.
  • Attend Catholic liturgical ceremonies (as required).

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in library science, elementary education, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with library systems (e.g., Follett Destiny) and digital research tools is a plus
  • Prior experience working with or teaching lower-school-aged children preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of children’s literature and literacy development.
  • Physical demands as required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
