Job description

Are you a children’s book lover and rising publishing pro looking to grow your career? Do you want to create impactful campaigns that put magical stories into the hands of young readers—and help shape the future of bestselling kids’ brands?
Sourcebooks, home to award-winning and bestselling children’s books, is looking for a Marketing & Publicity Associate to join our dynamic Impact Marketing team. This is a perfect next step for someone currently working at the assistant level in publishing who is eager to take on more ownership, creativity, and strategic collaboration.
As a Marketing & Publicity Associate, you’ll lead marketing and publicity efforts for a list of standout titles and brands within our children’s division—primarily focused on juvenile nonfiction for ages 0–8—and manage our influencer outreach program.
You’ll help books thrive in the marketplace and reach readers in meaningful ways and gain visibility into every part of the publishing and marketing pipeline, working closely with sales, digital, retail, and editorial teams. You’ll also build strong relationships with authors and the broader children’s book community through events, media placements, and grassroots promotions.
We are looking for a proactive and passionate Marketing Associate to join our team at Sourcebooks Kids. This role is ideal for someone with 1-3 years of experience in digital marketing, influencer marketing, or publicity, ideally within the publishing industry. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in promoting our authors and books through strategic marketing initiatives, including influencer partnerships, creating digital and print marketing assets, and running publicity campaigns.
This role is based in Naperville or New York and is a hybrid role and will require time in office.
The hourly pay range for this role is $23.00 - $26.00. Initial offers are typically made at $23.00/hourly with placement within the range based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, location, training, and education.  This process ensures a fair and competitive salary that aligns with both the company and the candidate’s qualifications.
What you’ll do:

  • Manage our influencer relationships, mailings, and database, creating innovative organic and paid influencer campaigns for board books, picture books, and middle grade books.
  • Plan and execute publicity campaigns to generate maximum exposure for our titles across traditional and digital media channels, primarily focusing on nonfiction titles for kids 0-8.
  • Coordinate author events, festivals, and tours in partnership with the Events Manager.
  • Collaborate on advertising and social media strategies.
  • Represent marketing efforts to authors, helping them develop grassroots campaigns and launch events.
  • Serve as a passionate advocate for our books internally, championing their success and ensuring alignment across departments.
What you bring:
We’re looking for someone who’s ready to level up and lead, with a mix of creative vision and tactical execution.
  • 1-3+ years of experience in book publishing, marketing, publicity, or a related field
  • Strong writing skills and confidence in crafting pitches, press releases, and social content
  • A passion for influencer marketing and a strong understanding of the influencer landscape in the children’s book space
  • A keen understanding of how stories connect with readers
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm for collaboration, and comfort presenting your ideas and plans to internal and external partners
  • Above all—you love children’s books and want to be part of a team that’s shaping the future of children’s publishing
