Job Description
The Broadcast & Digital Media Specialist will work directly with faculty and students to provide end-to-end support for newsgathering computer systems, graphics and live reporting workflows, instructional lab operations and hands-on technical support for courses. The individual in this role also provides oversight of student employees and maintains professional-level learning environments for approximately 400 students annually. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the next generation of journalists as they produce content for broadcast and digital platforms.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (communications technology, information technology, media production, or similar) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of progressively responsible experience supporting broadcast, newsroom, or instructional production technology environments.
  • Experience training and supervising student employees or support staff and producing clear technical documentation.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Advanced working knowledge of broadcast newsroom and instructional production environments, including newsroom computer systems, studio and post-production workflows, and common editing and graphics toolsets.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across Windows and macOS, local/networked storage, peripherals, and classroom technology.
  • Ability to configure, maintain, and support live reporting and field production solutions, and to translate technical concepts into effective student/faculty training materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to document procedures, manage service priorities, and coordinate work across technical partners.

Specific Skills include:
  • Experience with broadcast production automation, camera robotics, video switchers, digital audio consoles, microphones and IFBs
  • Experience with OverDrive automation, ENPS, iNews, XPression graphics, and studio rundown coding workflows.
  • Comfortable operating control rooms with live switching, media playout, intercom communications, and rundown integration.
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere, Audacity and other video and audio editing systems.
  • Strong understanding of digital media formats, video signal flow, and studio set safety protocols.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee lab facilities to ensure optimal functionality, including computer workstations per lab with production software, voice-over booths, and radio studios.
  • Verify hardware such as microphones; coordinate troubleshooting, maintenance, and restoration of service to maintain consistent availability for student and faculty use.
  • Support faculty instruction by assisting in training students and student workers on newsroom computer systems, edit suite hardware/software, video and audio recording/editing facilities, and digital camera workflows.
  • Recruit, schedule, train, and supervise student employees who provide class support coverage; provide ongoing coaching and quality control for service delivery; develop and maintain training documentation.
  • Provide direct technical assistance to courses and student productions, including scheduled class support, in-room troubleshooting, and operational support for planned instructional activities.
  • Provide internal technical support for newsroom operations, including newsroom software, graphics tools, and live reporting hardware/software; monitor systems and coordinate fixes to maintain operational readiness.
  • Other duties as assigned.
