JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Biomedical Lab Technician is to ensure a successful laboratory experience for students through preparation, set-up, take-down, and clean-up of all Science labs under the umbrella of General Studies.

This is a 40-hour per week school-year position that works 42 out of 52 weeks per year.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

Student Oriented Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a high-quality student experience by ensuring proper preparation of lab activities and maintenance of biomedical lab technology and equipment.

  • Assist faculty and students with laboratory activities and demonstrations, as needed on an occasional basis.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Maintain various equipment and models.

  • Ensure a clean and safe laboratory environment according to OSHA standards.

  • Prepare bacterial culture media, dissection and quiz specimens, chemical reagents, and various solutions and stains for student use.

  • Maintain and passage live bacterial stock cultures.

  • Operate and maintain various laboratory equipment.

General Responsibilities

  • Track inventory, order supplies, and obtain vendor quotes for major purchases, as needed.

  • Attend In-Service conferences and workshops and professional meetings to learn of trends and new products and or techniques.

  • Assist in selection and supervision of work-study assistants including the assignment of work hours and tasks

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Additional Experience Information:

  • Knowledge of chemistry, biology, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology is essential.

  • Strong math skills are required.

  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of biomedical lab equipment and preparation of lab materials.

  • Computer literacy required.
