Job description


Job Summary
The Student Financial Services Counselor provides accurate and comprehensive information regarding the availability of federal aid programs, application procedures, financing options, and budget information, as well as general information via email, phone and personal contact.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide all aspects of student financial counseling and administration, to assigned group of students.
  • Counsel with other students when their aid counselor is not available.
  • Communicate student's consumer information.
  • Stay current with federal and state regulations and institutional policies.
  • Process institutional refund calculations and other adjustments (such as summer drops).
  • Process professional judgment as directed.
  • Process Title IV File Reviews.
  • Process clearing of financial holds.
  • Process student request for financial exceptions as directed.
  • Process current student's accounts for payments and aid disbursements.
  • Communicate daily with students (via appointments, phone calls, emails, mailings, or walk-ins.)
  • Provide friendly & professional service to students, parents, the community and other departments on campus.
  • Coordinate payment plan arrangements.
  • Coordinate all loan activities (to include but not limited to)
    • originate loans
    • provide loan disclosure and fact sheets
    • loan adjustments
    • loan indebtedness (default)
    • entrance and exit interviews
  • Coordinate internal and external scholarships and awards (adjustments of Title IV funds)
  • Coordinate financial requests of special programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Windows environment including BANNER computer systems. Ability to operate a computer, typewriter, calculator, facsimile, copier and other standard office equipment.

Must have the ability to represent the University well with external publics, including knowledge about the University as an academic institution. Professional behavior at all times, including relationships with faculty, students, community partners and external publics.
Wage Range: $19.70 to $22.25 per Hour, plus Generous Benefits
