Academic Success and Undergraduate Advising (ASUA), Peer Advisor - Student Assistant, Palm Desert Campus

Job Summary:
Student Assistant - Peer Advisors (PDC) assist in providing basic academic advising to students in all Undergraduate Majors at CSUSB/PDC. Peer Advisors are responsible for helping students prepare their class schedules, advising them on their requirements for General Education and their major. Peer Advisors interpret PAWS, start and update a myCAP for students, explain academic policies, offer campus and community resources, table to promote advising, create informative material regarding advising, put together presentations and facilitate advising information sessions, host ASUA drop-ins, and perform general office operations.
Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, duties include but not limited to:
- Helping students in person and via Zoom
- Presenting basic advising information at new student orientation
- Creating an Advisor Proposed Education Plan with the advisee
- Assisting students in registration
- Referring students to online and on-campus resources
- Scheduling Appointments
- Answering telephone and email inquiries
- Assisting with ASUA basic advising projects and workshops
- Attend monthly staff meetings
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.

Required Qualifications:
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card

Preferred Qualifications:
- Available to work over the summer, fall, and spring
- Must be at least at a Sophomore Standing (30 Semester Units Completed)
- Must have a declared Undergraduate Major
- Strong preference for at least a 2.5 overall G.P.A., or greater
- Must be able to work mornings or afternoons Monday-Thursday between the hours of 8am-5pm over the summer and Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm during the academic year
Compensation and Benefits:
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.90 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.
Position Information:
Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal
Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm).
Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).

This is an 'On-Campus Only' position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.

Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Driver's License Check
Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
