Job description

Overview

***This position will be physically located in The Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP*** 

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Vertical Lift Lead under the oversight of the senior lead, oversees the day-to-day execution of the crane/aerial lift platform workload in equipment maintenance shop. Monitors the analyzation of fault malfunctions, repairs and maintains aerial lift platforms, such as, but not limited to cranes, manlifts, container handlers, scissor lifts, forklifts, variable reach forklifts, telehandlers and platform grapplers. Ensures established policies and procedures are effectively enforced. Controls shop maintenance schedule to ensure maximum utilization of assigned personnel. Reviews work in progress and upon completion for conformance to standards and to ensure section maintains the highest standards of workmanship and quality. Approves and orders parts with the appropriate documentation to submit to Production Control for each daily maintenance job being performed. Verifies maintenance paperwork is properly completed and submitted.


Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Conducts planning and scheduling of maintenance and services for all assigned equipment.
  • Responsible for Hand Receipt Holder for tools, equipment, and spare parts assigned to the section.
  • Utilizes Global Combat Support-Army (GCSS-Army) to manage daily maintenance related functions
  • Monitors work orders/production on all assigned equipment requiring corrective action.
  • Responsible for the tracking of equipment services, preventative maintenance checks and services (PMCS), administrative services, and unscheduled maintenance activities.
  • Ensures daily reporting is annotated with current and updated information.
  • Manages shop stock in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Performs vehicle test drives and testing of components and systems using equipment such as diagnostic engine analyzers, compression gauges, and other computerized diagnostic devices.
  • Uses, maintain, and handles shop power tools.
  • Follows repair procedures using Maintenance Allocation Charts (MAC), as well as USG and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) technical manuals.
  • Performs routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: Two years related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen
    • High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Must provide a copy of the diploma.
    • A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
    • Must have at least four (4) years of experience working full-time on gasoline/diesel engines of light/medium/heavy duty equipment and construction vehicles including cranes and aerial lift platforms.
    • Ability to meet required deadlines and maintain necessary workflow.
    • Must have current crane or aerial lift certification, or equivalent.
    • Commercial Driver’s license is preferred.
    • Must be able to operate vehicles with a manual transmission.
  • Experience:
    • Must have at least Five (5) years of experience working full-time on gasoline/diesel engines of Tactical and Non-tactical Vehicles (NTV).
    • Must have at least Five (5) years of experience working on light/medium/heavy equipment and construction vehicles of both wheel and tracked.
    • Must have Three to Five (3 - 5) years of leadership experience in the aerial/vertical lift and heavy equipment maintenance field or equivalent.
    • Must be proficient in troubleshooting, fault repair and maintenance of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical systems.
    • Ability to meet required deadlines and maintain necessary workflow.
    • Commercial Driver’s license is preferred.
    • Must be able to operate vehicles with a manual transmission.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent computer, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills required.
    • Computer skills include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and USG Army Information Systems (AIS).
    • Requires excellent organizational skills; with the ability to work under fast paced and adverse conditions.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).
    • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
    • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
    • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
