Job description

The Summer League Site Coordinator is responsible for implementing daily summer league logistics and acting as lead coach for summer league activities. Summer League Site Coordinators are responsible for tracking daily attendance and leading occasional one-one-one coaching sessions designed to develop assistant coaches as baseball instructors, youth development specialists, and community leaders.

Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy Summer League Site Coordinators commit to supporting the youth baseball and character development initiatives of the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. The Academy’s summer instructional league will immerse underserved youth in The Academy Way – a positive culture of teamwork, effort, continual learning, and a love of baseball.

This is a part time, limited term position from June 6th to July 31st, 2026, working an average of 34 hours per week.

Summer Programming Schedule:

  • First Day: June 6, 2026
  • Mandatory Training: Week of June 15
  • Programming: June 22 – July 30
  • Typical Programming Hours: Monday – Thursday 5-8pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Warmly welcome and greet participants and their families.
  • Assist in the distribution of snack after programming begins and dinner at the conclusion of each session.
  • Take a lead role in implementing baseball/softball instruction and lead Team Time.
  • Maintain supplies for baseball/softball-and other physical activities.
  • Manage all volunteer coaches at their site.
  • Lead measurement and evaluation efforts at each site.
  • Ensure Summer League character development curriculum is being followed and administered.
  • Implement tailored baseball instruction to young Scholar Athletes.
  • Help Scholar-Athletes develop baseball skills learned on the diamond into life lessons that can help them succeed in the classroom and their community.
  • Tracking daily attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in coaching youth sports.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in youth development preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be prepared and organized for every event day.
  • Knowledge of baseball/softball rules.
  • Commitment to achieving the articulated objectives of the Academy for Scholar Athletes, staff, and the community at-large.
  • Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills.

The Summer League Site Coordinator will be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees. Job requires the Summer League Site Coordinator to function in a high activity sports venue. While performing the duties of this job, the Summer League Site Coordinator is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, run, jump, and climb up/down stairs.

Compensation:

The projected wage rate for this position is $20.00 - $32.00 per hour. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
