Subsurface Utility Engineering Jobs in Ohio (NOW HIRING)

Job Description

We are seeking a Survey Field Technician for an immediate opening in our Columbus office. The Technician will work under the direction of a Crew Chief to collect field data for survey preparation using various equipment and software. While the primary focus is fieldwork, occasional office tasks are required. Projects include transportation surveys, site development surveys, boundary surveys, GPS, and construction staking, primarily within central Ohio. Travel is mainly conducted in a company vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Collect topographic field data for survey preparation using surveying equipment and software.
• Utilize maps, drawings, plans, and aerial photographs to evaluate project requirements.
• Assist in recovering survey control and monumentation, construction layout, obtaining invert and subsurface utility information, and photo documentation.
• Apply surveying techniques and advanced mathematics.
• Maintain and initiate repairs for survey equipment as necessary.
• Stay updated on current surveying practices, guidelines, and best practices.
• Research project documentation, deeds, and plats. Set up project binders, download data, and perform other office tasks.
• Prepare drawings and maps using Carlson Survey, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation as needed.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in construction, ALTA, survey CAD, and topographic surveys.
• Experience with AutoCAD and total station equipment.
• Strong understanding of land surveying and construction documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience working outdoors in a construction or related environment is preferred.
• Prior surveying experience is advantageous.
• Experience with Topcon Data Collectors, Robotic, and GPS equipment is a plus.
• Proficiency in Carlson Survey, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and MicroStation is beneficial.
• Willingness to work outdoors year-round.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to company standards.
• Candidates with a relevant degree (e.g., survey, engineering) but no work experience will be considered.

Work Environment

The role involves almost 100% fieldwork, with 95% of positions located in Central Ohio, primarily within the 270 area. The survey group encompasses Builder Services (residential new builds), Commercial Site Development, Land Development, utility/infrastructure projects, and small projects like boundary surveys and lot splits.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of COLUMBUS, OH.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
