Job description

Description
Why YOU want this position
At Enverus, we're committed to empowering the global quality of life by helping our customers make energy affordable and accessible to the world.
We are the most trusted energy-dedicated SaaS company, with a platform built to maximize value from generative AI, and our innovative solutions are reshaping the way energy is consumed and managed. By offering anytime, anywhere access to analytics and insights, we're helping our customers make better decisions that help provide communities around the world with clean, affordable energy.
The energy industry is changing fast. But we've continued to lead the way in energy technology, creating intelligent connections across the entire energy ecosystem, from renewables, power and utilities, to oil and gas and financial institutions. Our solutions create more efficient production and distribution, capital allocation, renewable energy development, investment and sourcing, and help reduce costs by automating crucial business operations. Of course, this wouldn't be possible without our people, which is why we have built a team of individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Are you ready to help power the global quality of life? Join Enverus, and be a part of creating a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as an Associate, Subsurface Innovation on our Intelligence team in Calgary. This role offers the opportunity to join a rapidly growing company delivering industry-leading solutions to customers in one of the world's most dynamic and fastest-growing sectors.

As an Associate, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers, geologists and financial analysts to publish investment research on the subsurface technologies moving in next to oil and gas: carbon capture (CCUS/CCS), geothermal, natural hydrogen, helium and direct lithium extraction (DLE). These are fast-moving markets where the standard benchmarks do not exist yet, so you help build them. You do not need to know the land, permitting, policy, carbon markets, tax credits, drilling and geology behind these plays on day one. You need to be excited to learn all of it.

Enverus is an AI-first company. We expect everyone on the team to use AI to raise the quality and cadence of their work, and we back the people who build the prompts, skills and workflows that make the whole team better. You will have the tools and the freedom to do this from day one.

This is an in-office role based at our Calgary headquarters with regular travel to the US for client meetings and conferences.

Performance Objectives
  • Analyze large data sets to identify trends, characterize opportunities, value assets and form opinions on market activity using internal workflows.
  • Learn the full value chain behind emerging subsurface plays, connecting the geology, drilling and completions, land, permitting, policy, carbon markets and tax credits such as 45Q and 45V into a single clear view.
  • Build and maintain economic models for CCUS, geothermal, DLE, helium and natural hydrogen, pulling in new sources such as investor documents, government filings and industry datasets.
  • Publish actionable investment research that helps clients make better capital allocation decisions, leading with the numbers or the names that matters.
  • Test the assumptions behind hyped technologies and flag where the economics, the resource or the policy does not support the story.
  • Ship a first version fast, get it in front of the team and clients, then improve it. Treat a wrong first answer as information you build on.
  • Use AI to accelerate your research and analysis, and begin building the prompts, skills and workflows that raise the quality and cadence of your output.
  • Collaborate with the product team to enhance and create new datasets and workflows within the Enverus platform.
  • Support conference calls and in-person meetings with clients and prospects, demonstrating Enverus Intelligence and other Enverus solutions.
  • Show a strong commitment to personal and team performance and development.

Required Work Experience and Education

  • 0 to 2 years of experience in a technical, research or analyst role, ideally in the energy sector. Recent graduates with the right mindset are encouraged to apply.
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, read broadly across geoscience, engineering, finance, accounting, mathematics, economics, environmental science or public policy

Competitive Candidate Profile

  • A strong learning mindset. You get fired up about a subject you knew nothing about last week and want to go deep on it.
  • Comfortable thinking outside the box and attacking a problem from angles others miss.
  • Willing to fail fast. You would rather test an idea quickly and be wrong than wait for a certainty that never arrives.
  • Willing to challenge the status quo and push back on consensus when the data points elsewhere, including with senior colleagues and clients.
  • Proficiency with AI tools and a drive to push them further. You reach for AI to draft, analyze and pressure-test your work, and you want to learn to build your own workflows.
  • A deep sense of curiosity about the energy transition and the technologies and companies driving it.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize actionable analysis from large, dynamic data sets.
  • A clear writer and presenter who can turn a messy dataset into a takeaway a client can act on.
  • Eager to work on an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts with a steep learning curve.
  • Computer literate with advanced Excel skills and an interest in data tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI or Spotfire. Willingness to learn Enverus solutions.
