Job Summary

Theconstructionskilledlaborerhelpsthepipelayerbyperformingdutiesrequiringtechnicalexperience.Dutiesincludeassistingwithlayingpipeforstormorsanitationsewers,drains, andwatermains.S/hemayassistintheperformanceofanycombinationofthefollowingtasks:gradetrenchesorculverts, position pipe,orsealjoints. Inadditiontoassistingpipelayers,theskilledlaboreralsoworksdiggingtrenchesfor/aroundexistingutilities,manuallyhelpwithensuringappropriategrading, andmovematerials/tools.Theskilledlaborerplaysamajordaytodayroletokeepworksitescleanandcompliant.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Cleanorprepareconstructionsitestoeliminatepossiblehazardsandprepareforplacementofaggregates,road/substrate,orutilities.
  2. Signalequipmentoperatorstoalign,moveoradjustmachinery,equipment,ormaterials
  3. Load,unload, and/oridentifymaterialsandtools
  4. Digditchesortrenchesfor/aroundexistingutilities, back-fillexcavations, grade andleveltrenches;mayusetampingmachine and/orhandtools. NOTE: May betrainedtooperatesomeheavierequipment.
  5. Performsgeneralconstructionwork(usinghandtools,liftingmaterialsonaverageupto50pounds)underdirectionofPipe Layer, Crew Leader,ForemanorSupervisor.
  6. Mayperformflaggingdutiestocontrol andmaintainflowoftrafficinworkzone.
  7. Performotherduties, as andwhenassigned.
  8. Undersupervisionofpipelayersorsupervision,mayusetoolstoverifygrading/levelsurface.
  9. Assistinaligningpipesmanuallyduringpipelineconstruction(generallyforwetutilities[water/sewer]).
  10. Assisttoconnectpipes andsealjointsusingglue,cement,gasketsand/orflanges.


Qualifications

  • 5 years of hands-on experience in heavy civil construction (utilities required)
  • Must havephysicalabilitytostandstrenuousanddangerousworkenvironment. Must becomfortableworkingin 15ft -20fttrenchesandotherconfinedspaces.
  • Hasphysicalstrengthdigandperformgeneral laborwithlaborercrews,includingdiggingbyhandandlifting/pushing/pullingmaterials.
  • Abletocommunicateeffectivelywithothersandworkcooperativelyinteams(includingresolvingbasicconflictswithorwithouttheassistanceofmanagement).
  • Handleemergencysituations,workpressureand stress.
  • Abletosolvebasic,common-senseproblemsusingexperienceandconstructionknowledge.
  • Musthavea flexibleschedule(makeworkirregularoroddhoursinoutdoorworksites,dependinguponprojectneedsorweather),includingnightsandweekends.
