GENERAL SUMMARY
Under general supervision, creates a classroom environment that is positive, safe and student centered. Utilizes effective teaching strategies to advance student achievement. Uses a variety of assessments to evaluate student learning, to shape instruction and provide meaningful educational experiences. Works with students and parents effectively and with care. Reports to the school Principal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)
Cooperates in developing a program of continuous progress consistent with District goals and objectives to meet the needs, interests, and ability levels of the students.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and student-centered.
Provides supervision of students at all times, maintains order in the classroom and in all other settings.
Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal.
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Establishes clear and appropriate objectives for all classroom activities and communicates these objectives to students and parents.
Employs a variety of instructional methods, instructional media, technology and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives and capabilities of the individual students or student groups involved.
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
Follows the District and School's guidance utilizing the selected curriculum.
Analyzes the progress of individual students on a regular basis and seeks appropriate assistance as needed.
Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteers. and provides adequate plans for substitute teachers.
Seeks the cooperation and assistance of parents through positive oral and written communication. Regularly schedules conferences, makes phone calls, sends emails, etc.
Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educational related purposes when required or requested to do so.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by State or Federal law, District policies, and administrative regulations.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and to properly care for all property, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
Is punctual and responsible in performing all duties and activities as assigned.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life, and student behavior in a fair and just manner.
Participates in School or District staff development programs as assigned.
Maintains professional relationships with students and faculty, follows ethics of the teaching profession and promotes the welfare of students at all times.
Attends staff meetings, serves on committees as requested, and accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular or other activities as assigned.
Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.
Willingly performs other related duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's Degree or higher. South Carolina Teacher's Certificate with the appropriate endorsement. Must be able to effectively teach and communicate with students, staff and parents. Must demonstrate a passion for teaching and learning.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school District which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position; knowledge of the methods for developing lesson plans, selecting instructional materials and classroom activities which stimulate inquiry and curiosity in the learner; knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained; knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and behavioral problems.
Skills/Effort:
Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice; ability to supervise students and maintain order in the classroom and all school settings; ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities; ability to prepare lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials for classroom activities; ability to identify student behavioral and/or academic problems, provide counseling and/or recommend appropriate remedial action to parents; ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, District staff, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job; strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
Working Conditions:
Classroom environment with limited exposure to environmental conditions; physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring the lifting/moving of items weighing up to ten pounds; occasional local travel is required; occasional overnight travel may be required.
