Job description

Position PurposeΒ 

A Substitute Teacher, or Sub, teaches and supervises students if their regular teacher is unable to lead class.Β Β 

Essential Functions and DutiesΒ 

  • Foster a classroom environmentΒ in accordance withΒ the school’s mission: To provide a holistic college preparatory education in a nurturing, Christ-centered environment.Β 

  • Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staffΒ in accordance withΒ school policies.Β 

  • EnsuresΒ adequateΒ supervision toΒ assureΒ the spiritual development, health, welfare, and safety of all students.Β 

  • TakesΒ all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Β 

  • Reports toΒ the officeΒ upon arrival at schoolΒ for substitute duties,Β requirements for the day, and checkout keys, badge, and laptop if applicable.Β 

  • If applicable, return keys, badge, and laptopΒ issuedΒ toΒ theΒ office at the end ofΒ each day.Β 

  • Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to theΒ appropriate authorityΒ immediatelyΒ or as soonΒ asΒ possible.Β 

  • Implements provided lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner, which motivates students to learn andΒ participate.Β 

  • Organizes students for effective instruction.Β 

  • Dismisses all students from the classroom before leaving the building.Β 

  • Participates in dismissal duties of the regular teacher.Β Β 

  • Submits notes to the regular classroom teacher reporting on the day’s activities.Β Β 

  • Collects students’ papersΒ at the end of each day.Β 

  • EnsureΒ classroomΒ is locked and secureΒ at the end of each day.Β 

  • Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to the proper place.Β 

  • Long-term substitutes will develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s past lesson plans.Β Β In addition,Β substitutesΒ may be expected to attend regular staff meetings.Β 

  • Adhere to the Student Protection Policy (SPP) procedures andΒ trainings.Β 

  • Responsibilities and tasks outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may change asΒ determinedΒ by the needs of the school.Β 

QualificationsΒ 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.Β 

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting.Β Β 

  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills.Β Β 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and Google.Β 

  • Serve as a Christian role model.Β

  • Substitute jobs are accepted by the substitute through Liberty’s substitute system.Β
