Job description

Opportunity Overview:

Principal Engineer-Substation is a remote position with travel to Juno Beach, FL. This is a 1-year contract assignment.(W-2) You in this job will manage internal substation projects from initiation through completion. You will develop substation projects from conception (Early Stage) through construction and commissioning (Execution).

In the conceptual phase, work with the Early-Stage Project Manager and Development Group to support the project engineering requirements and scope. Projects can begin as FERC 1000 transmission project proposals, or as greenfield projects.

Location: Remote is acceptable reporting to Juno Beach once bi-monthly.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Conduct project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis.
  • Identify issues, measure and validate results, and implement solutions to project challenges.
  • Secure engineering consulting resources from a list of approved suppliers by developing a scope of work, securing bids, evaluating, and awarding work through NEER's Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.
  • Coordinate with other project team members to develop and secure a substation site, support any engineering updates, data and permits necessary to develop the substation.
  • Support Transmission Services during review of interconnection documentation including system impact studies, facility studies, reactive and harmonic studies and Interconnection agreements and ensure that Transmission Owner requirements and E&C engineering design are consistent and in compliance with all ISO requirements and incorporated into the project design.
  • Manage development of substation design documents, i.e. physical drawings, electrical schematics and civil drawings through 10%, 30%, 60%, 90% and Issue For Construction (IFC) sets of drawings.
  • Work with EOR's for development of design documents.
  • Manage the review of substation design drawings and documents. Coordinate the review of documents, and to provide comments on documents submitted by EOR for comments.
  • Work with project engineering resources in, work plans and lines of demarcation.
  • Support the Project Schedule from the Engineering standpoint.
  • Support Legal in any regulatory filings, depositions and hearings.
  • Collaborate with component OEMs to enhance/adapt their designs to better integrate with NEER's philosophies.
  • Conduct external research and stay up to date of new developments or advancements about the project.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Master of Science or.
  • 11+ years of experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects.
  • Project Engineering and Project Management experience.
  • Not required to stamp engineering drawings.
  • Travel required within North America.
