The CASAC Consultant will function as support specialist to ACS, under the supervision of the Child Center of NY Team Coordinator/Program Director and will be located full time within one of the ACS Field Office Site located in Harlem.

This is an onsite position, requiring the CASAC Consultant in office 5 days a week in the Harlem office.

Essential Functions:

• Assess and determine whether client is using/ misusing substances via substance use disorder (SUD) assessments, brief interventions, and consultations.
• Make recommendations for community-based services indicated by the level of care needed.
• Keep statistics of clients served as part of a monthly progress report for ACS.
• Help interpret results of alcohol/drug screenings conducted by an ACS contracted provider or other lab report for toxicology testing.
• Participate in Family Team Meetings and Child Safety Conferences to assist ACS workers with providing the client with psychoeducation, raising awareness and discussing the benefits of a SUD assessment with problematic substance use.
• Conduct trainings for child welfare staff to teach about drugs, the signs and symptoms of use/ misuse, and environmental presentation of drug use/ misuse and engagement strategies. Trainings will be focused on teaching ACS workers about the progressive nature of addiction as well as the impact of drug use and abuse on parent’s capacity to parent/function.  Teach the impact of substance abuse on familial homeostasis and how this disruption may manifest negatively in the emotional, social and academic wellbeing of the child(ren).
• Conduct cross consultations (with their peer MH-DV support specialists) that involve substance use disorder, mental health concerns and intimate partner violence, as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Attend case reviews as an important training tool, as per request of ACS and approval of the Team Coordinator/ Director.
• Attending CSP citywide substance use disorder meetings- as determined by the Team Coordinator/ Director.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of community-based resources for referral to substance use disorder services.
• Community/ field visits -including but not limited to home visits, schools, hospital (i.e. discharge meetings) and to treatment provider sites- will be required when necessary to assist with engaging clients.
• Communicate and work with service providers, as needed, to help ensure ACS clients engage in recommended treatment/ services. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Master’s Degree , preferably in a human service field or other related area plus a minimum of five (5) years’ experience, with at least a portion of the experience serving families in the child welfare system
• CASAC Certification

• Trauma-informed, culturally competent, and cross-disciplinary knowledge about the impact on families of co-occurring substance use disorders and cognitive impairments.
• Skilled in at least one of the following evidence-based practices: Motivational Interviewing, Screening Brief Intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT), Teen Intervene.
• Excellent listening and communication skills, ability to conduct biopsychosocial assessments and develop care plans.
• Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently.
• Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines and multi-task.
• Excellent writing skills
• Excellent engagement skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to understand, respect and work in a host environment
• Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills required.
• Ability to work onsite in an ACS office location and/or out in the field 5 days/week is required to ensure effective collaboration and adherence to the contract.
