Position Summary for ADON: Behavioral/Substance Abuse Unit

Plans, coordinates and provides total nursing care for customers and provides supervision and guidance to clinical team members. Scopes of work may be modified by state specific rules under the Nurse Practice Act.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Initiates and leads team in development of individualized nursing care plans

2. Assesses and documents the customerโ€™s condition and nursing needs

3. Accurately and promptly implements physicianโ€™s orders

4. Assigns nursing care to team members in accordance with the customerโ€™s needs and the personโ€™s capabilities and qualifications

5. Supervises, directs, and evaluates LNโ€™s and CNAโ€™s

6. Administers medication, starts IVโ€™s and performs treatments for assigned customer and documents treatment as required by PHP, and local, state, and federal rules and regulations

7. Participates in orientation and in-service training

8. Assist physicians with special tests and procedures within the scope of states specified Nursing Practice Act

9. Ensures that supplies are utilized economically and that equipment is clean and maintained in a safe manner

10. Reports and record pertinent observations and reactions regarding customers

11. Coordinates nursing care of customers when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments

12. Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in customers

13. Interviews applicants and recommends hires. Participates in counseling, disciplinary action and termination of team member(s), to extent permitted by state practice act.

14. Supervises nursing unit, which includes scheduling and directing nursing team members to extent permitted by state practice act

15. Completes semi-annual team member job performance evaluations

16. Required to provide weekly audits as identified

17. Required to adhere to infection control procedures and ensure fellow team members are following guidelines

18. Required to hold daily team member huddles and collect sign-off sheet

19. Audits customer admission to ensure facility is adhering to plan of care; ensure customer medication is accurate and available upon admission

Required Education/Experience

โ€ข High School Diploma or Equivalent

โ€ข Graduate of accredited School of Nursing

โ€ข A minimum of five (5) years of progressive nursing experience

Required Licenses/Certifications

โ€ข Valid state RN License

โ€ข Valid CPR Certification

Preferred Education/Experience

โ€ข College/University Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, Business or other related field

โ€ข A minimum of seven (5) years of progressive nursing experience

โ€ข A minimum of three (3) yearsโ€™ experience in a nursing leadership role
