Job description

City Cast is hiring a Subscription Growth Manager to drive the next phase of City Cast DC. We're launching premium subscriber content to accompany our free daily podcast and newsletter. We need a smart, creative, data-driven person to build the user journey from conversion to onboarding to retention. This person will collaborate with the City Cast DC content and editorial team, City Cast's product and operations team, and will report to the City Cast DC General Manager.
This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role for someone who wants to help turn our DC newsroom into a thriving subscription business. You'll have a real say in what City Cast DC's subscription product looks like, and you'll see the results of your work directly in the community you serve. This role will work almost exclusively with City Cast DC to start, but has potential to bring expertise and impact across the network.
Application Due: July 7, 2026
What You'll Do
Own acquisition and subscriber journey
  • Define the user journey to drive paid subscription conversion onsite and via email.
  • Help shape the structure and packaging of City Cast DC's subscription tiers and value proposition
  • Develop robust lifecycle communications including welcome, retention, and winback series
  • Partner with the City Cast membership manager to develop and run ad hoc membership campaigns across email, website, social and podcast messaging
  • Partner with editorial and audience teams to promote subscriber benefits such as original paywalled content, member events, swag, etc.
  • Write or closely direct copy for all acquisition touchpoints including website, newsletter in-podcast CTAs

Data and operations
  • Track and report on core subscription metrics: conversion rate, churn rate, LTV, and net subscriber growth
  • Translate data into clear recommendations and share findings with key stakeholders
  • Stay current on industry best practices around personalization, segmentation, and platform capabilities.

Requirements
What You Bring
  • This is both a strategic and operational role. You have a builder mentality - you're comfortable owning subscriber growth strategy and operationalizing it.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a consumer subscription business, with a very strong preference for media experience. You should have worked on growth or lifecycle marketing, conversion-rate optimization or product marketing.
  • Solid grasp of subscription funnel economics - you know what moves conversion and retention rates and why.
  • Familiar with membership and CRM tools.
  • A strong, clear writer who can match a brand voice and craft copy that converts.
  • Data-informed mindset - able to interpret metrics and apply insights.
  • Able to manage multiple projects in a fast-moving environment
  • Genuine enthusiasm for local journalism and the communities it serves.

Benefits
This position is full-time and remote, with excellent benefits. Candidates based in the D.C. area are strongly preferred so they can collaborate closely with our local team.
