The opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Subrogation Manager to join our Claims team based in our Plymouth, MN; Denver, CO; Canton, MA; Atlanta, GA; New York City, NY or Chicago, IL office on a hybrid schedule. This position manages components of subrogation handling for multiple specialty lines of business. Develops plans, analyzes results and oversees work of subrogation staff. Reviews and provides direction/makes recommendation on settlement authority where required, on complex, and/or high exposure subrogation claims. Supports Subro Director through communication about specific claims, identification of claim trends, input on form development, and marketing support. Monitors claim quality, customer feedback and claim reports of staff to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, customer satisfaction and achievement of corporate objectives. Independently operates within stated company guidelines and high authority levels in the settlement of subrogation claims. Some of the Subrogation Manager responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensures execution of proper handling strategies; including appropriate determination of coverage, liability, and claim resolution as they pertain to subrogation.
  • Recommends, drafts and implements procedural and workflow changes to reduce and/or eliminate inefficient processes for Subro Staff and ensures that Staff Counsel retained manages assigned portfolio within mandated guidelines
  • Makes decisions or recommendations for subrogation disposition, including evaluation, negotiation and settlement of subrogation on claims with exposures in excess of staff counsel’s and staff autonomy levels.
  • Proactively manages allocation of all incoming settlements and collections proceeds to support accurate production of KPI’s
  • Reviews and analyzes subrogation reports to ensure expected outcomes based on KPI’s in place
  • Identify trends and develop and implements strategies to correct adverse trends.
  • Maintains a strong professional knowledge of regulatory and legal environments as they pertain to subrogation and applies this information effectively.
  • Manages assigned staff, including development, goal setting, skill assessment, staff selection, role alignment, and performance appraisals of staff. Provides frequent communication and measurement of goals. Oversees training and personal development programs within the group.
  • Anticipates and meets all customer needs (internal and external business partners).
  • Liaise, trains and collaborates extensively across the Claims Department within all lines of business to foster and maintain organizational recognition of subrogation opportunities
  • This person will manage a team of 7 people (possibly more down the road) from varying lines of business. (Auto, small property, workers compensation, occupational accident)
  • A background in all lines of business preferred but not absolute. Not only managing current staff, but included in this, is the development/oversight of our new hires.

    The expertise you bring

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required;
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of specialty claim experience
    • 3-5 years of Subrogation experience
    • 3-5 years of supervisory/management experience.

    Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires; however, your recruiter will provide more specific compensation details during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $111,000 – $147,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Washington DC; our Massachusetts based offices and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $129,000 - $151,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include but not limited to:
