Job Summary
The Assistant STUNT and Cheer Coach supports the overall development and success of the university's STUNT and Cheer programs by assisting with coaching, recruitment, operations, and student-athlete development. This role provides instruction in technical skills, game-day performance, and competitive routines while promoting a positive team culture grounded in leadership, accountability, and sportsmanship. The assistant coach contributes to recruiting efforts, coordinates team logistics and events, and supports daily program operations, including travel, scheduling, and equipment management. Additionally, this position emphasizes student-athlete academic success, personal growth, and compliance with university, conference, and NCAA regulations, while fostering strong relationships across campus and within the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching and Student-Athlete Development
  • Assists with planning and conducting practices, workouts, conditioning sessions, and skill development training for STUNT and Cheer student-athletes.
  • Provides instruction in game-day cheer, stunting, tumbling, pyramids, jumps, and performance routines.
  • Supports the physical mental, and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Assists with choreography, routine preparation, and competition/game-day execution.
  • Promotes sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and team work within the programs.
  • Monitor's student-athlete progress and provides mentorship and support.

Recruiting and Retention
  • Assists in identifying and recruiting prospective student-athletes who align with program and university standards.
  • Communicates with recruits, coaches, parents, and campus partners throughout the recruiting process.
  • Coordinates recruiting visits, tryouts, clinics, and camps.
  • Supports retention initiates that promotes student athlete success and engagement.

Program Operations and Administrative Support
  • Assists with day-to-day operations of the STUNT and Cheer Programs.
  • Coordinates travel arrangements, itineraries, meals, lodging, and transportation for team travel.
  • Maintains inventory and organization of uniforms, equipment, and practice materials.
  • Assists with budget tracking, purchasing, and program documentation.
  • Supports scheduling for practices, competitions, appearances, and events.
  • Assists with compliance paperwork and required athletic department documentation.

Game Day, Competitions, and Event Management
  • Assists with preparation and execution of game day performances and STUNT competitions.
  • Coordinates team appearances for athletic events, university functions, community outreach, and promotional events.
  • Ensures student - athletes are prepared and present for assigned events and appearances.
  • Assists with crowd engagement and promotion of school spirit during athletic events.

Compliance and Student Success
  • Ensures compliance with university, conference, NCAA governing body, and athletic department polices and procedures.
  • Promotes academic achievement and monitors student-athlete academic progress.
  • Works collaboratively with academic support staff, athletic trainers, strength staff, and university departments.
  • Maintains certifications and safety standards required for collegiate cheer and stunt programs.

Community Engagement and Leadership
  • Represents the university and athletic department in a professional manner.
  • Assists with community outreach initiatives, alumni engagement, youth clinics, and fundraising efforts.
  • Builds positive relationships with campus departments, student alumni, and supporters.
  • Encourages leadership development and positive team culture within both programs.

Minimum Requirements
Education - Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience - One year of college coaching and recruiting experience and/or experience at a highly competitive high school or club system.
Licenses/Certifications - Valid driver's license; Valid certification in STUNT and current USA Cheer membership. Must be able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, teaching, public relations, interpersonal, customer service and supervisory skills; Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to travel independently for competitions, recruiting activities, camps, conferences, and team events by driving/and or commercial transportation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Three years of college coaching and recruiting experience and/or experience at a highly competitive high school or club system.
  • NCAA recruiting certification, CPR, First Aid, AED

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to demonstrate and instruct collegiate cheer & stunt skills, including stunting, tumbling, jumps, and conditioning activities.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, spot athletes, and actively participate in practices, games, competitions, and events for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, load, and move equipment, mats, signage, uniforms, and practice materials up to 50lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, wind, humidity, and elevated noise levels during athletic events and practices.
  • Ability to safely spot and assist student-athletes during practices and performances.

Additional Information
A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University-Kingsville will not pay this fee.
