MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER - SOCIAL STUDIES (Grades 6-8)
Terms of Employment:  10-month Employee

Position Summary

Odyssey Charter School is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and culturally responsive Middle School Teacher to support student learning in a rigorous, standards-based, and student-centered environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about fostering academic excellence, building meaningful relationships, and supporting a diverse student population.

This role requires a collaborative educator who can effectively engage middle school learners, implement research-based instructional practices, and contribute to a positive school culture rooted in inquiry, critical thinking, and global awareness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid, active Delaware Teaching License and Certification in the appropriate middle school content area in accordance with 14 Del. C. 1531
  • Successful completion of Praxis II exams
  • Proficient in English (written and spoken)
  • Relevant middle school teaching experience preferred
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to global citizenship

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons appropriate for middle school students
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to support student learning
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse academic needs and learning styles
  • Promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and inquiry-based learning aligned with the Socratic Method
  • Prepare lesson plans and maintain documentation of instructional planning

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administration to improve instructional practices and student outcomes
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, expectations, and concerns
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning, and school-wide initiatives

Classroom Environment & Management

  • Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom environment
  • Set clear expectations for student behavior and foster a positive classroom culture
  • Manage classroom routines and procedures effectively

Assessment & Student Support

  • Assess and monitor student progress using a variety of tools and strategies
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and performance
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and families
  • Identify student learning needs and collaborate with specialists to implement appropriate supports and interventions

Cultural & School Integration

  • Support Odyssey's mission by fostering cultural awareness, global citizenship, and respect for diversity
  • Integrate elements of inquiry-based and classical learning approaches into instruction
