Job description

Zimmerman is seeking a IT Studio Support Engineer to support and maintain the technology platforms that power the organization’s broadcast production, studio operations, and media environments. This specialized role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and seamless integration of audiovisual and IT systems that support content creation, live productions, executive communications, and enterprise-wide media initiatives.

The successful candidate will oversee the design, implementation, support, and optimization of video control rooms, editing suites, digital media workflows, and live-streaming platforms. They will work closely with production, creative, facilities, and IT teams to deliver highly available, scalable, and resilient solutions that meet the demands of fast-paced, mission-critical production environments.

The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in both AV and IT technologies, with experience supporting broadcast systems, media infrastructure, networking, streaming platforms, and studio operations. They must be capable of troubleshooting complex technical issues under pressure while maintaining exceptional service levels and operational continuity.

This role requires a proactive, solutions-oriented professional who can evaluate emerging technologies, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure Zimmerman’s media production environments remain innovative, reliable, and aligned with business objectives. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform effectively in high-visibility, time-sensitive situations are essential for success.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Maintenance:

  • Manage, patch, and maintain high-performance audio/video systems, including editing workstations across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments, as well as rendering and broadcast server infrastructure.
  • Live Operations Support: Provide rapid-response technical support during mission-critical events, executive broadcasts, and live webcasts, ensuring uninterrupted performance and minimal downtime.
  • Infrastructure Management: Support and maintain wired and wireless communication systems, intercom platforms, and specialized media signal workflows, including SDI, NDI, and IP-based video transport technologies.
  • Studio Development: Contribute to the design, build-out, and ongoing support of studio environments, including video walls, control rooms, conference spaces, and integrated media production systems.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience supporting macOS, iOS, and Linux-based environments within an enterprise setting.
  • Relevant technical certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), or equivalent credentials.
  • Working knowledge of audio-visual systems and conference room technologies, including setup, troubleshooting, and end-user support.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical and sensitive systems, with the ability to respond with appropriate urgency and maintain operational continuity.
  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and maintain composure in a high-interruption, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written, verbal, and telephone communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally across all levels of the organization due to the high-visibility nature of the role.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Work Experience: 1–3+ years of professional experience in broadcast engineering, audiovisual (AV) event support, or enterprise IT within a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency across macOS, Windows, and Linux operating systems, with familiarity supporting software tools commonly used in animation, visual effects, and media production workflows.
  • Work Environment: This role operates within a dynamic, fast-paced environment that may require flexibility to work extended hours, overtime, and occasional weekends to support critical business and production needs.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs unassisted for racking equipment, cable management, and facilities tasks (e.g., UPS swaps).
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and travel as needed.
