Studio Intern information

What is a studio intern?

Studio interns are entry-level workers who assist with various tasks in a studio environment, such as a recording, art, or film studio. Their responsibilities may include setting up equipment, organizing materials, supporting creative projects, and performing administrative duties. Studio internships provide valuable hands-on experience, insight into industry operations, and opportunities to learn from professionals. These roles are often sought after by students or recent graduates looking to build their skills and start a career in the creative industries.

What are the common responsibilities and learning opportunities for a studio intern?

As a Studio Intern, you can expect to assist with a variety of tasks such as organizing equipment, supporting production set-ups, managing schedules, and helping with administrative duties. You'll often collaborate closely with production teams, learning firsthand about the workflow of a professional studio. This role provides valuable exposure to the technical and creative aspects of studio operations, allowing you to develop practical skills and industry connections. Interns frequently have opportunities to observe or participate in active projects, making it a great stepping stone for future roles in media, broadcasting, or production.

To thrive as a Studio Intern, you typically need a foundational understanding of creative processes, organization, and basic knowledge of the specific studio's focus (such as art, music, or design), often supported by relevant coursework or a portfolio. Familiarity with industry-standard software (like Adobe Creative Suite for design or Pro Tools for audio), file management, and studio equipment is highly valuable. Strong communication, adaptability, and a willingness to learn are standout soft skills in this position. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively supporting studio operations, collaborating with team members, and maximizing learning in a fast-paced, creative environment.

Job description

Job Summary

Charter., in partnership with Forge Virtual Studios, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Video Editing Intern who wants to develop their craft in a professional commercial environment.

This role is designed for someone who loves post-production, including organizing footage, assembling edits, refining stories, and preparing final exports. This is a post-production-focused internship rather than a general production or studio operations role. It is an opportunity for an aspiring editor to learn alongside an experienced creative team while contributing to real client work and internal content.

The Video Editing Intern will work closely with the Creative Director and other members of the creative team, supporting projects from media ingestion through final delivery. Projects will be scoped to the intern’s experience level, with regular mentorship and feedback. All client-facing work will be reviewed and approved by the Creative Director or an experienced editor before delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Editing & Post-Production Support

Assist editors with organizing, syncing, labeling, and preparing project media

Create string-outs, selects, rough cuts, and short-form edits under the direction of the Creative Director or an experienced editor

Organize footage, maintain project files, and follow established post-production workflows

Export internal and client review cuts, assist with version management, and prepare deliverables for review and approval

Source music, sound effects, and stock assets when appropriate

Assist with basic color correction, audio cleanup, graphics updates, and finishing tasks as skill level allows

Incorporate creative feedback and make revisions while maintaining organized project versions

Content Support

Edit internal marketing, behind-the-scenes, case-study, and social media content

Create short-form edits for digital platforms

Support revisions based on feedback from the creative and marketing teams

Help maintain an organized media library and archive completed projects

Prepare reusable clips, selects, and assets from completed projects when requested

This role does not include primary responsibility for production crews, studio operations, social media management, or final client approvals. Occasional exposure to productions may be available when it supports the intern’s understanding of the editing process.

What You’ll Learn

Professional commercial and branded-content editing workflows

Media organization, project setup, version management, and archival practices

Editing techniques related to pacing, storytelling, continuity, and audience engagement

How to receive, interpret, and apply creative and client feedback

Basic color correction, audio cleanup, motion graphics, finishing, and delivery workflows

How projects move from production through post-production and final client delivery

How to prepare portfolio-quality work in a professional environment

Requirements

Current student or recent graduate pursuing film, media production, editing, communications, or a related field

Strong interest in video editing and post-production

Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro

Basic understanding of editing fundamentals, storytelling, pacing, and continuity

Comfortable receiving feedback and revising creative work

Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage footage and project files responsibly

Able to work independently while following established creative direction and workflows

Dependable and able to communicate clearly about progress, questions, and deadlines

Interested in commercial, documentary, branded, and high-quality digital content

Available to work in person at the Hanover Park studio during agreed-upon hours

Nice to Have — Not Required

Experience with Adobe After Effects or DaVinci Resolve

Basic knowledge of color correction, audio mixing, or motion graphics

Experience editing personal, academic, freelance, or social media projects

Familiarity with file organization, media management, proxies, and common video formats

An interest in commercial production, virtual production, or documentary storytelling

What We Offer

Paid, hands-on experience in a professional commercial post-production environment

Direct mentorship and regular feedback from experienced creative leadership

Exposure to professional client projects and established editing workflows

Opportunities to build portfolio-quality work across commercial, branded, documentary, and digital content

Access to professional editing tools, production resources, and creative facilities

A flexible schedule designed to work around school commitments

A collaborative, respectful, and growth-oriented creative culture

Potential consideration for future freelance or junior editing opportunities based on performance, availability, and business needs
