Their responsibilities typically include organizing materials, setting up equipment, maintaining the workspace, and sometimes assisting directly with artistic or production tasks. They play a crucial role in ensuring that the studio runs efficiently, allowing the primary artist or creative professional to focus on their work. Studio assistants may also help with administrative duties, scheduling, and client communications, depending on the size and nature of the studio.

What does a studio assistant do?

Studio assistant is a position found in many industries, include fashion, photography, music, film and television, and beauty. If you work as a studio assistant in the music industry, your duties include updating logs, setting up recording equipment, and laying cable before a session. An artist’s or photographer’s studio assistant, on the other hand, may have more administrative responsibilities, such as scheduling meetings with clients, answering email, running errands, and coordinating the artist’s daily work plan. In a beauty salon, a studio assistant may work the reception desk, answer phones, and help with clean-up.

Familiarity with studio equipment, digital editing software, inventory systems, and basic maintenance tools is typically required. Strong communication, flexibility, and the ability to multitask help you support artists and team members effectively. These skills ensure the studio runs smoothly, projects stay on schedule, and creative processes are efficiently supported.

Job description

Who We Are
At 2K, we create some of the most iconic and culture-shaping video games in entertainment, including NBA® 2K, one of the top-selling franchises in the world, and legendary titles like BioShock®, Borderlands®, Mafia, Sid Meier's Civilization®, and XCOM®, as well as fan favorites WWE® 2K, TopSpin®, and PGA TOUR® 2K. We build unforgettable experiences by pushing the boundaries of creativity, authenticity and innovation across every genre.
Our portfolio is brought to life by some of the most influential game development studios in the world. Visual Concepts, Firaxis Games, Hangar 13, Cat Daddy Games, 31st Union, Cloud Chamber, Gearbox, HB Studios, and 2K SportsLab create world-class experiences across platforms.
But what truly powers 2K is our people.
We believe the best ideas come from teams that feel empowered, supported, and inspired. As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive workplace where people are encouraged to come as they are and do their best work.
What We Need
The Manager, HRBP & Labor Relations is a key member of the Shared Development Studios (SDS) North America HR team, reporting to the Sr. Manager, HRBP. This role serves as a strategic and operational HR partner across a diverse portfolio of client groups spanning our Motion Capture Studio, Research & Insights, and Global Services functions - a combined population that is dynamic, distributed, and central to how SDS delivers for our studios.
Labor relations is a meaningful part of this role. You will be the primary HR point of contact for our unionized MoCap workforce and the go-to resource for CBA interpretation and compliance across the organization. But this is a full HRBP role, not a pure LR role - we're looking for someone who brings both the relationship-building instincts of a great business partner and the technical grounding to navigate a union environment with confidence.
This is a hybrid role based in our Petaluma, CA studio.
What You Will Do
HRBP Partnership
  • Serve as the day-to-day HR partner for client groups across MoCap, Research & Insights, and Global Services, building trusted relationships with managers and employees at all levels.
  • Partner with leaders on org health, workforce planning, talent development, and employee engagement across a varied and distributed population.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers on performance, development, and team effectiveness.
  • Develop recruiting strategies with hiring managers; liaise with recruiters to provide context on staffing needs, role fit, and budget guidance.
  • Partner with HR COEs and the broader HRBP team to deliver seamless HR programs and processes across the organization.

Labor Relations
  • Serve as the primary HR lead for the MoCap Studio's unionized workforce, owning the day-to-day relationship with union representatives and ensuring compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Handle routine labor relations inquiries related to policies, procedures, and CBA interpretation; escalate and coordinate with legal and COEs on complex grievances, mediations, or arbitrations.
  • Investigate and help resolve grievances, work complaints, and employee relations matters in alignment with the CBA and company policy.
  • Support contract negotiations by collecting data on pay, benefits, working conditions, and relevant precedents; assist with preparation of required documentation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable labor law, regulations, and best practices; serve as an internal resource for the broader HRBP team on LR matters.

Program Delivery
  • Drive adoption and execution of key HR program cycles including performance feedback, compensation planning, promotions, job leveling, and annual workforce planning across your client groups.
  • Manage headcount tracking and support the Global Services ticketing and workforce management processes.
  • Partner with People Ops to ensure clean routing of transactional HR work so HRBP capacity stays focused on strategic and employee-facing support.

What Will Make You a Great Fit
  • 5+ years of HR experience, with meaningful exposure to both HRBP partnership and labor relations or employee relations in a complex environment
  • Experience supporting unionized or represented employee populations; CBA administration experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills - you build trust quickly and hold it
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving instincts; comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships across all levels of an organization, from frontline employees to senior leaders
  • Working knowledge of applicable labor and employment law
  • Willingness to travel regularly to our Petaluma studio
  • Gaming industry experience a plus; shared services or matrixed org experience a plus

As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to ensuring that qualified individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform their essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us if you need a reasonable accommodation
The pay range for this position in California at the start of employment is expected to be between $100,200.00 and $148,320.00 per year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for employees in regular roles may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, provided that temporary or intern roles will not be eligible for many of these payments or benefits. Details of participation in compensation and benefit plans (if applicable) will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
