Location: Warwick, RI
Job Type: Temporary (4–6 Month Assignment)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Up to 35 Hours Per Week

Lead Financial Operations at Rhode Island's Largest Community College

The Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) is seeking an experienced Interim Bursar to provide leadership and operational oversight of the College's student accounts and cashiering functions during a temporary assignment. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced higher education finance professional to make an immediate impact while ensuring continuity of critical financial operations.

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Interim Bursar will oversee student billing, accounts receivable, cashiering, collections, payment processing, and OneStop financial operations across multiple campus locations. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong knowledge of higher education business practices, Banner (or similar ERP systems), and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision for Bursar Office operations across all CCRI campuses.
  • Manage student billing, cashiering, collections, accounts receivable, refunds, payment plans, and related financial transactions.
  • Supervise and support OneStop financial operations to ensure exceptional customer service and consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Oversee third-party contracts, agency funding agreements, and collection activities.
  • Maintain and administer Banner Student, Banner Accounts Receivable, or comparable ERP systems, including testing, configuration, user maintenance, and process improvements.
  • Ensure accurate tuition and fee assessments, payment processing, refund administration, account holds, ACH and credit card transactions, and drop-for-nonpayment processes.
  • Maintain compliance with FERPA, PCI standards, IRS 1098-T reporting requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Partner with Finance, Financial Aid, Enrollment Services, Information Technology, and other departments to support student success and operational excellence.
  • Communicate professionally with students, parents, faculty, staff, and external partners regarding student account matters.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Direct experience in a college or university Bursar Office, Student Accounts, or OneStop environment.
  • Experience with Banner Student, Banner Accounts Receivable, or a comparable higher education ERP system.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Student accounts receivable
    • Billing and collections
    • Cashiering operations
    • Internal controls
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, customer service, and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with TouchNet, Augusoft, or similar higher education systems.
  • Knowledge of Financial Aid regulations, FERPA, PCI compliance, and IRS 1098-T reporting.
  • Experience supporting multi-campus college operations.
