Under the direction of the Director of School Culture and Climate and the Coordinator of Culture and Climate, the Education Specialist II provides expertise to support the design and implementation of strategic initiatives, programs, and activities related to student wholeness, integrating social and emotional learning (SEL), restorative practices (RP), and other wholeness-oriented approaches, such as trauma-informed practice. This role also includes the development and delivery of professional learning, as well as the provision of direct climate support to schools, to build staff capacity and ensure effective implementation of these practices across schools.
The Education Specialist II plays a key role in supporting school climate systems, student engagement, and behavior supports, including the implementation of Tier I climate practices, student transition supports, and alignment to MTSS frameworks. This work includes supporting school teams in the development and execution of Climate Plans, reinforcing schoolwide norms and routines, and using data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.

The Education Specialist II will play a key part in supporting extracurricular programming and districtwide initiatives, ensuring alignment to student engagement, climate priorities, and overall student experience
Essential Functions
- Provides project management for assigned School Culture and Climate initiatives and programming, ensuring thoughtful planning and design, high-quality and on-time execution of deliverables, and clear communication and reporting in line with internal and external requirements.
- Leads the design and facilitation of high-quality learning opportunities for adults (including district and school-based staff, partners, and families), including the development and delivery of professional learning, related to climate and culture (i.e., SEL, restorative practices, trauma-informed practices, and positive behavior/discipline frameworks and strategies).
- Conducts research and consultation, provides technical expertise, and supports planning and implementation of strategies related to school climate improvement, the integration of SEL into academics, and explicit instruction of SEL.
- Provides coaching, consultation, and direct climate support to schools to bolster implementation of climate and culture practices, with a focus on strengthening Tier I systems, schoolwide expectations, norms and routines, and the integration of restorative practices throughout the school.
- Supports schools in the development and implementation of Climate Plans, conducts and/or supports Climate Walks, and uses data to guide continuous improvement of school climate systems.
- Supports the planning and coordination of extracurricular and enrichment programming, ensuring alignment to student interests, engagement, and school climate priorities.
- Monitors and evaluates extracurricular participation and access, using data to support equitable opportunities, increase student engagement, and inform continuous improvement of programming.
- Works in collaboration with Teaching and Learning, Office of Special Education/Related Services, College and Career Readiness, Family and Community Engagement, and others to ensure that schools have the support they need to create a clear, tiered continuum of behavioral, social-emotional, and climate supports for all students.
- Creates and develops tools and materials to support learning and communications related to School Culture and Climate.
- Tracks, analyzes, and reports on relevant school- and district-level data (e.g., attendance, behavior, climate) to inform planning and implementation, as well as continuous improvement, learning, and evaluation.
- Supports the development and adoption of district-level policies and practices that promote positive school culture, climate, and student well-being for both students and adults.
- Develops strong relationships with relevant offices and organizations, while also helping to build understanding of and support for School Culture and Climate initiatives among families and in the community.
- Represents the Office of School Culture and Climate, Office of Whole Child Services and Support, and the district in meetings and conferences, as needed.
- Cultivates a learning-oriented work environment and models a positive, growth-oriented outlook while actively fostering the social-emotional well-being of students, staff, and team members.
- Demonstrates leadership in learning about research and best practices related to school climate, social-emotional learning, restorative practices, behavior systems, student engagement, and extracurricular programming.
- Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
- Maintains confidential and sensitive information.

- Bachelor's degree required from an accredited institute of higher education.
- Valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) professional licensure with [insert endorsement] endorsement.
- At least five years of relevant full-time professional experience.
- Ability to interact with diverse constituencies and convey complicated information with tact and diplomacy.
- Proficient skill in the use of technical computer applications, including electronic databases, case management systems, and Microsoft Office, including Excel and Power Point.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Skill in research, presenting, and explaining policies and procedures, assembling data, preparing complex reports, and formulating and presenting recommendations.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize changing assignments, and organize busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.

Please note, this is not the hiring range. The hiring range for this position is ($94,735 - 142,846).
